Hello, name changed for this. Looking for some experience of retraining when almost 40. Has anyone done this? Hoping I'm not too late.

Background is I have a degree in politics but have worked as an actor for over a decade. As you can imagine, my wage has been utterly decimated by COVID and I just don't think I can keep going with the stress of working in the creative industries. Feeling pretty low but know I have to press on. Any advice would be very welcome indeed.

My mum retrained at 45/46. She still had kids at home and she got financial support for being a single mum whilst at uni.
What do you want to do?

I'm retraining. I'm 48. I have already secured a well paid position (temporary) in my new industry and I haven't even finished my degree.

Thanks - that's positive! I honestly don't know what to do, I am in panic-mode with my income being slashed. I have transferable skills in communication, writing and proof-reading but I honestly can't think of a job to go for.

Can you afford to study?

Yes - I have savings so studying is definitely an option.

I retrained at 32, finished at 34 (Masters) best thing I ever did.

My mum retrained at 38, finished at 41, has had a 20 year career she has loved.
