Is it just me that has a weird obsession with hand sanitiser now

Ever since all this Covid stuff started, I’ve become more hygiene aware, as have a lot of people.

I wash my hands more thoroughly with hot water and soap and I now use hand sanitiser more often.

I don’t know why, but I’m really liking the fact that I have to sanitise my hands. I just love walking into a shop and seeing the sanitiser pumps by the door and squirting it on my hands, especially the ones that have the lovely flowery scents, they are soo good.

Am I just completely bonkers or is anyone else the same?

I think you're bonkers Grin

I don't like touching the hand sanitiser in the shops as loads of other people touch it Blush so I use my own. I have been stocking up a little on HS when I see them for when dc go back to school etc but some of them can be sticky which annoys me

I have never used or bought hand sanitiser EVER. And I was weirdly proud that I was going to manage to get through the whole pandemic without using it.

Until I went to hospital yesterday and had to use it on the way in and out Grin

I've popped my cherry 🍒 Grin

I like smelling my hands in different shops to see what the sanitiser smells like. IKEA - tequila (Yuck)… Tesco's yesterday - floral (lovely)

Most shop ones are rank IME. I have a wide selection of different ones I use

I find some of them too watery and take ages to rub in

I hate the tequila smelling ones. And the ones that you know have been bought in Savers and are only 40% alcohol.

Nah, some shops have awful sanitiser so I can’t use just anyone’s!

Ikea and next are trash. I just wanted to immediately wash my hands with water as the lingering scent was vile.

M&S’s is so watery, I feel like their stores reek of their sanitiser now.

Personally I’d rather just use my own.

I hate the sanitisers that seems to pill/ball up on your hands - like Zara’s

I bloody hate using the stuff, have never bought or used it before the virus. And hate using it now too actually 😂

It’s actually really bad for your skin to be using hand sanitizer all the time. It breaks down the natural protection barrier on your skin causing micro tears and dry / cracked skin which are more likely to let infection in!

I generally hate sanitizers. A lot of them are really sticky and some smell awful ! I much prefer just washing my hands very regularly as even after hand gel my hands don’t feel clean without water

@Time2change2 how often do you use it? I probably use it twice a day if I'm shopping. I use soap and water at home.

The Bath and Bodyworks ones are lovely. I have a collection.

I would prefer it if more toilets were open so I could actually wash my hands.

Or in the case of DS1, wash his face after he's eaten...

Neals yard is the best one I've found, watery but rubs in really well and smells lovely. The ones in most shops are sticky and make my hands feel dirty!

I don't use hand sanitizer. I just wash my hands with soap and water before leaving the house and when I come home.

I think using too much sanitizer isn't a good thing. How can you develop immunity to anything? I've never used it in my life and I never get ill.

Not so much the sanitiser, but I've become a bit obsessed with washing my hands all the time as I think they feel dirty.

I have been using it for years as a primary school teacher with Crohn's disease! I use a spray and bath and body works gels. I am actually using less at the moment but this will go up again when school is back do hand cream is also needed.

Washing your hands lots is also damaging to the skin.

I don't really like sanitiser but it doesn't seem so bad on my skin as multiple washing.

Obviously I do wash when coming home etc.

I've always liked using them in hospitals, before COVID. And beforehand I always kept some in my dog walk bag for after clearing up, and on Public transport. I just feel safer when I've used it.

Be careful with sanitiser - my DM has ended up with second degree burns on her hands through using a number of different hand sanitisers when she went shopping a month ago. She was in a massive amount of pain and has to have her hands bandaged twice a day. She's going to need to wear protective gloves whenever she's outside for the next few months and it's unlikely her hands will ever fully recover. We don't know yet if it was a build up of lots of sanitisers or one particular one that caused a reaction but I've seen similar stories in the news too. I always use my own now.

@Northernsoullover I don’t tend to use them much because they are terribly damaging for your skin but I have seen friends use them many times when on a shopping trip for instance.
I my DC primary school, they have laid out detailed plans / routine for the day and they will be sanitising the kids hands 7 times per day, every day. I am very worried what that will do to
Their skin

I've been using hand sanitiser a lot, especially when at the gym. It's starting to irritate my hands though Angry

@BogRollBOGOF carry wet wipes for DS1s face.

I've gone the other way. Not that I was that clean before. If peas fall on the floor when I'm dishing up dinner, I just pick them up and pop them in my mouth!

I only use shop sanitiser if a security person insists I use it as I enter the shop.

Dh bought some sanitiser home from work. It's barely been used.
