Last ditch attempt to lose weight before schools start?

OuterSpaceGirl · 14/08/2020 10:13

It does worry me that I’m a couple of stones (at least) overweight and that schools are starting. There will be higher risk for the virus to spread. Plus winter is coming up.
Anyone else worried and want to lose weight?

Yes me and DH. We've been making some changes for the last week or so. I was just about to go over to the Weight Loss section and see if I could join a thread over there!

Yes us too. But I'm more then a couple of stones overweight so I feel like I have a death sentence on my head and it already feels pointless sigh

Sorry if I just brought your thread down!

Same here. I was over weight before now I'm really worried about it - and its not just a little bit I need to lose.

I've started eating smaller portions, buying lower fat versions of things, cut out snacking and added in an extra 20 minute walk each day. I'm also trying to cut out sweets and chocolates.

Its not much but I'm hoping it will make some difference

No need to be sorry @LolaColaMola
Many of us are worried and struggling.
I’m really trying to think of it as focussing on wellbeing and trying to live a healthier and more active life which will hopefully lower risks for complications from covid 19, if I get it.
Everyone who loses weight and becomes more active always say how happier they are too. That’s got to be worth trying to achieve, right?

We've both downloaded My Fitness Pal, and trying to eat a low-carb high fat diet while keeping calories under 1500 (DH) and 1200 (me). I'm swimming at least 60 laps every day, he's doing an hour on the elliptical. Hopefully that will give a bit of a jump-start to weight loss.

The LCHF thing is mainly to help control calories while staying full, since the moment carbs come into the picture it's almost impossible to stay under the calorie target. And if we stick to only low-fat stuff we're both ravenous so quickly after eating.

I need to do this too. Not just w couple of stone either. Obviously I always knew there were health risks associated with being obese but this covid thing is making it all the more real. I also went family walk last weekend and I was shocked by how unfit I was. I need more energy. Haven’t made any start yet though .... seems so big a task I’m not sure if it’s impossible.

Sounds like a really good plan @Xiaoxiong. Low carb works really well. Your exercise plans sound good too.
@RingDingDong it really is possible. I was listening to a YouTube video by someone called Dr Cywes who talked about carb addiction. It was fascinating and really resonated with me.
He said that if you think about how much water you need, you don’t actually know because your body regulates it. Tells you when to drink, yells you when to stop.
He said your body does the same with food. The problem is when it’s not good or drink your body needs.
If you had 5 chickens, you wouldn’t eat more than you need because your body can regulate protein and fat.
When you have things like alcohol and carbs/sugar, your body can’t regulate them because it’s not something you need so we have to educate ourselves on it.
Anyway, it seemed to make sense.

And me. Have really noticed the impact of not walking from parking to school and back twice a day.

Am currently on holiday. Have good intentions of morning walks with the dog

@OuterSpaceGirl thanks I’ll have a listen to that.

For me I’m worried about anything faddy or cutting anything complete or very limited like carbs. Or low fat I’ve read so much that it’s not actually good for you to have low fat eg yogurt because they remove the “good” parts and just add sugars so full fat everything is actually better for you health wise.

Joining. Back in the classroom in a fortnight, and five stone to lose. Sad

RingDingDong · 14/08/2020 18:41

I’ve about 5st to shift too @BSJohnson just seems like so much doesn’t it. I might break it down and aim for a stone at a time. Whenever I work out the realistic 2lb per week thing people talk about I always feel totally overwhelmed by how long it will take .. and that’s assuming I do actually lose that much each week.

BSJohnson · 14/08/2020 18:50

Totally the same, @RingDingDong. I'd be happy just to lose 2 or 3 right now, but it feels pretty hopeless.

I've bought some Quark instead of low-fat yoghurt. It's nice with lemon juice, frozen blueberries, and a bit of sugar.

@RingDingDong it’s good not to want to do anything faddy. After all, it’s going to have to be something we can maintain for ever really.
Maybe we shouldn’t think about weight but making our bodies healthy and providing it with vitamins and good food. Not putting pressure on it to try to process junk?
I think if going for good wholesome natural foods and keep snacking to a bare minimum is a good start?
Three good meals a day mostly protein and veg, 5 portions of fruit and veg. 1 treat.
I don’t know. I’m just trying to shift my mentality.

Exactly why I did the Fast800 @OuterSpaceGirl....3 wks in half a stone gone and dropping.

listsandbudgets · 14/08/2020 18:54

I'm the same ringding and boris. Its a huge amount so I've decided my first target is to aim to lose 10% of my body weight by Christmas. That's feels realistic and ( hopefully) doable

TopCherry · 14/08/2020 18:54

Fast800 is temporary to rapidly drop weight over 8-12wks then you move onto the 5:2 which is for life.

@OuterSpaceGirl I'm with you on Dr Cywes, I listened to a podcast of him talking to Zoe Harcombe and realised I am a carb addict.
It was only 2 weeks ago and it made so much sense.
Have lost half a stone in those 2 weeks and now I'm easily eating a diet of meat, fish, eggs, dairy, in just 2 meals a day, nd have lost all cravings for sweets, pasta etc. And so much energy - I feel I have myself back after a few years of low mood, anxiety and lethargy.

OuterSpaceGirl · 14/08/2020 19:02

Sounds good @TopCherry. I’ve wanted to do that for a while but just can’t seem to get going with it.
I should try again as that kind of result would be amazing.

Me. I've done a very loose version of the fast800 and I've lost 10lb in just over two weeks. Most of that has obviously been water weight, but it hasn't felt difficult, and I have a handle on the carb and sugar cravings. I have exactly three stone to lose now. I'm aiming to get to 9 stone, which is the weight I was when I felt fittest and ate the healthiest. I did loads of walking and cycling (hate gyms) so I'm also getting my bike fixed and getting a seat for the toddler. I know I don't have as much to lose as some, but all my friends are slim and lovely, and on my build, anything that isn't slim makes me look sturdy and matronly Grin

@ReallySpicyCurry don't be so hard on yourself, 10lbs is not water weight 😂 you can only hold onto a pound or pound and a half of water Xxx
