Anyone on Amex - "Shop Small"

KitKatastrophe · 11/08/2020 18:53

Has anyone used the new Amex Shop Small offer?

If you're with amex I recommend looking it up- £5 cashback if you spend £10 in local small businesses. And can be used in conjunction with eat out to help out. We got £25 off our meal for two in total yesterday. And I'm going to be going to the local card shop to stock up for the rest of the year, and the toy shop to buy a few stocking fillers early. Great way to get people shopping locally again.

I’ve always loved the Amex incentives but a lot of my local independents don’t accept Amex due to their fees- it seems they’re higher than standard visa or MasterCard fees.

Gee gave up our AMEX cards due to half the shops not accepting AMEX. Maybe it’s changed?

Gave up on Amex, too. Even barclaycard gave up on Amex!

This. Amex probably pressure the small shops to accept, to take a cut of their sales with their high fees.

Small shops can't afford this and in many cases might lose their profit on the transaction so you're not helping them as much as you think you are.

Using this offer to bribe bargain seeking members of the public into doing often loss making transactions at small shops is not good so I don't have an Amex card on principle.
