Distressing clairvoyant reading

TheWildOnesNeverDie · 10/08/2020 16:37

A few days ago a lady contacted me via Facebook and told me she had a message for me. She said it was from my Dad and that she didn’t want payment - she just needed to pass the message on.
Now I like to get my tarot read and thought it would be like that. So I accepted and figured it was something to do, it’s free and a bit of a novelty. I felt she’d probably say something generic like ‘your dad has found peace’ or he wants to say he loves you.

It was a pretty usual reading. Lots of telling me things I already know etc. Some stuff she did get right that I haven’t disclosed to anyone before but nothing groundbreaking.

Then she got to my dad. My dad ended his life last year, it’s a very sensitive subject for obvious reasons. Still I have come out the end of a hard year and allowed her to talk about him. I had not disclosed on Facebook how dad died. Lots of people assumed he was ill and I never found it necessary to mention it publicly.

She said things that I found really upsetting and it all brought back lots of distressing thoughts and feelings. She said that he felt he was worthless, and the world would be better off with out him. That he felt very dark and basically unloved.

Dad and I had a rocky relationship so I was visibly upset at this point (it was a video call) she mentioned hard parts of my life - my parents splitting, my dads alcohol problems etc. She said he regretted his decision to end his life and now hangs around me feeling uninvited to connect.

I ended the call in floods of tears, she asked if I had any questions but I actually couldn’t speak I was so upset and have spent the day feeling emotional and lost.

Should I message her and tell her how she’s made me feel?
Should I just chalk it down to her making rubbish up? I know mumsnet tends to be anti-woo ....but any clairvoyant types who can offer some reassurance ?

Thankyou

I thought that CVs and those in that community did their best NOT to pass on such distressing news. I thought it was like some sort of code of conduct...?
So on that basis I would say she is a crackpot who has wound you up. Think nothing more of her.

Don't be duped by this woman, please. There are no clairvoyants.

I'm so sorry for your loss, and sorry she has made you feel this way.

It is almost certain that this predator knew how your dad died, and has targeted you to draw you into further paid, manipulative 'contact.' It is an awful thing to do to someone. Please block her.

She'll have got those details from a friend or family member and is trying to get to you.

Deadringer · 10/08/2020 16:45

Is there any possibility that this is someone you know who has a grudge and wants to upset you. Why would a real clarivoyant (if such a person existed) do this, it doesn't make any sense.

Report
Gubbeen · 10/08/2020 16:47

She'll have got the details of your father's death from someone who knows you, and is either getting her sick kicks from just playing with the head of someone who lost a family member to suicide, or, as a pp suggested, as the precursor to a further paid 'connection', probably with the suggestion that you will be able to speak to him and tell him he was loved and find 'closure'.

This woman is a disgusting fraudster, the lowest of the low, and you should have nothing further to do with her. There are no clairvoyants, just the deluded and the consciously fraudulent. It's very clear which this woman is.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

Now it's free, but what's the betting that in order for him to 'move on' it will cost money...

Terrible. Especially as she contacted you..really shitty thing to do.

I know given the context it will be hard but letting this go out of your headspace as early as you can is the best way.

And block this woman. Cheek of her.

Though some people "enjoy a reading' for entertainment lots of people believe there is no such thing as a genuine clairvoyant.

But anyone who has dabbled in the area can tell you its basic ethics of the role not to intentionally cause distress.

Shes a shitty fraudster with no conscience who knows which buttons to press for maximum emotional damage.
She probably wants to leverage your upset to make money.

What she did was very cruel.
She will have learned of the manner of his death by research. I expect she does this a lot.
Finds someone on FB, does some digging, gives them a freebie...

Then the rinsing begins.

Don't fall for it!

I'm sorry my love, she read about your dad in the local paper.
She doesn't want payment, but for you to either pay next time or tell your friends how good she is.
Believe me I know every trick in the book.

I do card readings (and am woo) for fun, and sometimes get extra messages/ hunches that are correct. I had a message passed via a friend of my DSis from one (health related - something preventable and within a time frame - never happened though maybe it was the healthy choices... whatever)

This sounds as dodgy as anything. The tragic circumstances could be found out and then this kind of 'reading' made up. Is this a clairvoyant with a good reputation or following? Or is there a scam down the line somewhere?

Also I very much believe that if there is life after death it is a place where whatever happened in your life was part of your journey (reincarnation based), and once the life is over you have time to reflect and take lessons to move forwards. This kind of message isn't normal for people who believe in the afterlife. I can't imagine any clairvoyant contacting you out of the blue with the message that you need a reading - surely they'd already know what the message was IYSWIM.

I'm sorry you'll be feeling shit right now with everything stirred up - but my (woo) spider senses, and understanding of humanity, are telling my that there's something behind this that's negative and nothing to do with your DF. She either wanted to upset you for a personal reason, or there will be a scam. Mind you non-woo MNetters will be thinking the same.

Right here goes.

yes there are clairvoyants and it is a gift. However, nobody in their right mind would do this to a person.
It's not just about speaking to spirits, it's giving counsel and a professional would never do this.
First of all you don't contact future clients, they come to you. Secondly, you give advice, help and support.
This is what the world stole from the Romany, and another thing they turned into negative experience.
The sage woman who can offer counsel and maybe read your palm or your tea leaves for fun.

These people are absolute predators. She will have found out about your father by the usual trawling obituaries, newspapers etc for likely candidates, then researching you online as much as possible, trawling your friends list, looking up your family members etc. Then after identifying you as a "mark" and collecting enough info, she offers to do a 'free' reading, use the prelearned info along with cold reading techniques to gain trust, then slip in something designed to upset you into coming back for more (not free) readings to 'resolve' the disturbing things she told you in the first instance.

Most of these people have a similar playbook. I'm sorry for your loss and I'm sorry you were targeted in this way.

As a ‘woo’ person, this smells off to me. She is waiting for you to get back in touch and it ready to charge/scam you.
Please don’t put yourself through it - messages from the other world won’t help your grief. Please get therapy, that’s how you’ll feel better.
I’m so sorry for your difficult loss.

It’s all rubbish.
You should watch Derran Brown’s documentary on suggestibility and fortune tellers / clairvoyants. It was most interesting

Do not contact her do not respond to her if she tries again

Report
TheWildOnesNeverDie · 10/08/2020 17:18

Thankyou so much for all your reassurance.

I have seen Derren Brown and did feel she was warm reading me. She asked a lot of questions etc.

I don’t plan to contact her again for another reading, and definitely wouldn’t pay for it. I’m skint anyway!

That said - she isn’t a friend or anything, she is just a random follower of a page I run.

Before I accepted the ‘reading’ I checked her reviews and most were very positive and she calls herself a counsellor and says she wants to help people move through their issues, plus she shares lots of genuine self help type things. She seemed very nice but now I feel there was an ulterior motive...

My dads passing wasn’t reported in the news that I know of, although it may have been locally - I don’t live near where he was but he was found by a member of the public, although hadn’t actually died at that point so perhaps it wasn’t news worthy although very shocking I imagine for the lady who did see him. :(

Either way, it’s hard to drop it. I’m hoping I feel better after sleeping it off, but I feel very heavy and tearful.
I had imagined how he must have been feeling in the weeks leading up to his death and to hear someone ‘confirm’ it is just heartbreaking.
Especially as she didn’t offer me any kind of ‘but he’s ok now’ ...just that his last time on earth was bloody dreadful and no one stepped in.

Thanks again for your kind words. It means a lot.

reviews are often fake and written by the person or their friends, if she is a counsellor she would hopefully have qualifications and be registered, what sort of genuine counsellor would phone someone they have never met to relay distressing news and guilt trip them. I would be tempted to block her from the site you run, she may of got a lot of info from that site or from asking you lots of questions.

She’s a terrible person and is 100% setting up a scam.

There is a million dollar prize up for grabs to the person who can prove under scientific conditions that they have psychic powers. That prize has been left unclaimed since 1964. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Million_Dollar_Paranormal_Challenge

I would be tempted to play along and see when she asks for money. But it’s probably a better idea to disengage.

I’m sorry for your loss.

Well - so sorry for your bad experience. This encounter seems very odd - she did not say anything about your future - which is what clairvoyance is supposed to be about. She only dwelled on your father. However you already knew your father was in a bad place when he died. She is just bringing it all back to you in a very strange way. Perhaps you did not grieve properly when he passed but you are doing that now because of this experience. Hope you feel better soon.
