Sexist BA!

Howzaboutye · 08/08/2020 09:28

Omg Ive just got a flight reminder email from BA. Addressed to my husband.

I booked the flight on my BA account. My credit card. I'm the lead booker.

So why the hell do they pick the male traveller to address the automatic emails to?

Oh I'm so cross.

That would make me cross too.

Well aside from the fact it looks unlikely BA will still be in business 12 months from now, that's another reason not to book with them.

I always book flights and holidays, not with BA admittedly, and anything that comes in about our trip is always addressed to me.

Is the first on the list of passengers? I booked flights for my mum and I recently and they keep emailing “Dear PlunkPlunkMum”.

Is he the lead passenger?

Report
Howzaboutye · 08/08/2020 09:43

Nope. I'm the lead passenger and my name was top of the list.

Last year the emails were addressed to one of our children .... his name is first alphabetically and was the only reason we could think of as to why the emails had his name on! I think it’s more of a system anomaly in than a sexist thing

Message back and sign off in capitals using your name.
Also point out that all future communication should be addressed to you, the lead booking.

That is bad and quite puzzling then.

Why do they know your dh's email address?

Report
plunkplunkfizz · 08/08/2020 09:46

Also, pop your tin hat on. Someone will be along in a minute to say “don’t you have bigger problems to worry about/I couldn’t get worked up about this/etc.”

We should all get upset about the subtle ways sexism and patriarchy manifest in day to day life.

Why do they know your dh's email address?

They’ve addressed the DH in an email sent to the OP.

I had this with the Child Tax Credit Office. Incompetent idiots, the lot of them.

My email address was the only one on the booking.

Systems are designed by people. Usually IT people. IT people are usually blokes.

I just can't believe it's accidental and no-one in BA has challenged this.

I had the same , I booked as the lead passenger with my email address but emails from BA came to my email address but addressed to Mr Yellowbutterfly.

Oh, sorry. I misunderstood. I got your point.

Yes, yes and yes BUT most of them are 40 or younger and plenty are modern of thinking just as the rest of their age group.

Just checked mine- if I'm the lead passenger they're addressed to me. Maybe you didn't select a 'mr, mrs, ms etc' and it defaulted to mr?

Report
ifoundafoxcaughtbydogs · 08/08/2020 10:21

It will all be done by automated systems, rather than a human being sending these confirmations. So most likely something has saved in the wrong field in their system than someone making a judgement in who to address correspondence to.

Report
Howzaboutye · 08/08/2020 10:30

Nope I picked Ms as my title.
Nothing an IT system does is automatic. Every single input and output are mapped out.
Someone in BA has made the conscious decision not to address the emails to the lead booker.
That is why I am cross.

Did you book online or over the phone?

Report
Howzaboutye · 08/08/2020 10:34

Online.
The email is a non reply one

I had the opposite weirdly...

Report
ifoundafoxcaughtbydogs · 08/08/2020 10:39

There's no way it's intentional then. A software developer isn't coding email confirmations to look if booking contains mr send to mr, otherwise default etc etc.

Report
Silverspring · 08/08/2020 10:39

Which is a complete pain because I hate being in charge of the family paperwork at the airport, one more thing to juggle and now I’ve got bloody vouchers to sort out.
