Watching TV this morning and heard someone say that the population of London is greater than that of Wales and Scotland put together. I had no idea!

Anyone else have anything that has fascinated them that they just hadn't thought about?

The difference between a million and a billion.

This puts it in context:

One million seconds is 11 days, 13 hours 46 minutes and 40 seconds.

1 billion seconds is 31 years, 251 days, 13 hours, 34 minutes, 54.7843 seconds.

Mind blowing!

Conception, the sperm and the egg. Unseen to the human eye but produce a human. Blows my mind every time I think about the miracle that it is!

@hippohector I like that one as well. And a trillion seconds is 189,276 years.

Useful for putting concept of wealth into perspective

There's one about Cleopatra living closer to us in time than she lived to the first pharaohs. Or something. It impressed me when I heard it!

The fact that Flat Earthers exist. I find it absolutely intriguing that some people genuinely believe the Earth is flat, and they're really serious about it and not joking.

Cleopatra lived about 2000 years ago. The first Pyramids were built about 2500 before her time!
