Ikea Wardrobes...help!!

Sorry for this ridiculously boring problem....

I've just wasted hours of my life getting to grips with the online IKEA wardrobe planner and have lost the will to live.

Trying to avoid physically having to go but think I may have to as the planner is so damn confusing. It also fails to mention which items are out of stock until the VERY last minute... And it appears bloody everything is out of stock atm.

Anyone have alternatives to IKEA?? I desperately need storage for my bedroom.

Looking for:

• sliding doors (small space)
• as much storage as possible
• not too pricey (we looked at bespoke from a local carpenter - sadly, don't have the billionty pounds he quoted. Same goes for Sharps, etc)

IKEA, I fear, has me over a barrel...(although that's probably out of stock too).
There must be another way surely to solve my storage issue???

Have you looked at Argos? Or B&M? A lot of the B&M furniture is the same style as ikea and quite cheap too

Unless you’re already familiar with Pax etc at IKEA, I’d just take the hit and go look in store. We have them in our bedrooms and they’re so brilliantly customisable, but seeing examples in person is much more helpful than the planner in working out exactly how you want to configure them for yourself. You also might be able to order things out of stock for home delivery when in store, can’t remember.

In a previous house, we bought fitted wardrobes with sliding doors from B&Q. The service was excellent and they had a good choice, not too expensive. Worth looking on their website at diy.com.

B&Q used to have some decent stuff along the IKEA line. I don't know if they do currently though.

We spent ages trying to do it from home, in the store the guy did it in about 5 minutes 🤣. We paid for the pick and deliver service, ended up with 22 boxes...challenging but very proud when we eventually got it all up 🙈

I've never found their wardrobe planner works very well. I think you're better off planning it just by looking at the available bits on the website.

You can always add to it at any time.

Ikea is such good value for money compared to other places I think. The quality is good for the price.

I managed to use the online planner. It is worth giving it a go as then you can take your time. Of course, seeing the stuff with your own eyes does help too.

I then sent the list of items to justflatpack.co.uk They collected everything, delivered, installed and took away the rubbish. You need to be in London area though.

I was really happy as they ended up going to three different Ikeas for the parts and it took two of them 10 hours to finish the installation. It was 5m of PAX though.

It's great but don't forget to factor in where you are going to build it as it needs to be flat in the floor for some of the construction and that takes up quite a bit of floor space.

You can book a wardrobe planner at IKEA. They contact you via teams, design for you and then sort your order. I’ve had 2 appointments in the last week or so just to finalise things. All ordered and being delivered next week.

It's great but don't forget to factor in where you are going to build it as it needs to be flat in the floor for some of the construction and that takes up quite a bit of floor space.

And double check the minimum ceiling height you need to turn it upright!

We used to have Pax, they were brilliant, but 2.36m tall. Fine in our old, modern flat, had to be given away when we moved as OH mis-measured ceiling heights (badly), so nothing fitted.
I'd measure (carefully, twice) the space you have available, draw it onto squared paper and book a session.
We did ask a local carpenter to give us a quote, but the price was so €€€ I suspect he was making them with offcuts from the Whomping Willow!

Having it delivered is easier than trying to fit the wardrobes in your car & lugging it in the house.

Yes, we had a local carpenter quote for built-in wardrobes that were £££££. Possibly also made from Whomping Willow or the True Cross or something 🤣

Thanks all. Yep, think I've persuaded DH that we really do need to go in person. We have measured several times (good job, as my original order would definitely not have fitted in the space. Oops)

I love a bit of IKEA me. DH despairs. Last time we went for a coffee table and ended up with side tables, a chest of drawers (discounted!!!) and a new bed. Oh, and eleventy-thousand tea lights...
