Q for those with an Ikea hemnes daybed

We have one already but I just wanted an opinion....

We’re in the process of scouting out a new home. Ours is on the market. We aren’t viewing anything because we aren’t proceedable (yet) but obviously I am looking at Rightmove etc.

Lots of the properties I am looking at have what would be the spare room being the smallest room. In some cases small and long too which really doesn’t help. One house I really love the guest room would be 2.10m x 3.5m. Most of our overnight guests are couples - in-laws, my parents come from abroad, etc so the spare room has to be able to accommodate a bed which pulls out to a double or similar.

I also don’t much like it when people have to climb over each other to get in and out of bed. Not the most suitable for some of our older relatives.

Then I had a random thought - can the hemnes daybed be pulled out and used the other way - and I googled and sure enough people do seem to do this (I’ve attached a photo) but surely the bed is really short?

I’m not about to go and test with ours which is in our box room and can’t really be pulled out without leaving zero floor space - plus for viewings this week it’s got ironing bedding and very artistically arranged cushions so no chance!

Does anyone else use this bed this way round?

I have one in my youngest’s bedroom and when co-sleeping is called for I use it in this exact set up. It is do-able at my height (5ft 6) but there is some overhang if I lie straight out. But no problem at all if sleeping curled up. The bigger issue is that the mattresses are unbearably hard so I’m currently saving to replace them. Hope that helps

The mattresses are 80cm wide, not the standard 90cm (learned that the hard way, buying a replacement mattress without checking), so your full length would be 160 cm. Bit short for most adults I'd say..
More crucially, it would be weird and uncomfortable to have the join between mattresses at the sleepers' waists surely.

Width when extended is about 166cm (5ft5"), so wouldn't have thought it would be comfortable for someone over 5ft. This is from looking at the IKEA website not in real life though.
On the odd occasion I have slept in a cot bed during a night time game of musical beds with a toddler.

Thanks. We have the ‘best’ mattresses with it anyway but I too do find it very hard on the shoulders and hips unless it’s as a single. Debating how else I can accommodate two people for 2-3 nights (so needs to be comfy) with room dimensions like that.

I am loathed to not consider the house based on a guest room with occasional use (every 6-8 weeks?)

Def don’t discount a house on that basis!
