Trying this dieting thing, the fasting in the evening and no snacks.my problem is watching tv in my alone time when kids are in bed without snacks feels so sad and crap and not enjoyable. Dieting is shit!why cant we all just eat whatever and be slim gorgeous healthy happy people!!

It's the worst. Alternate option: eat only snacks, let the day be the shit bit.

I usually eat loads of chocolate at night but I've bought some options hot chocolate and had that instead. Have you tried just snacking on a bit of fruit?

Have you been doing it long? I've been at it a couple of months and found the desire for snacks does wear off, my appetite is nothing like it used to be now. I do admit to some v early nights though! I think you have to find the right plan for you. For me this is quite liberating - eat whatever you want between these times.

I think attractive alternatives are the way to go. Snack a Jack’s or popchips instead of crisps, Cadbury's mousse frozen to last longer and give you an intenser chocolate hit etc. Helps with behaviour change

Sitting here thinking the same thing. I have no willpower either. I can't just have one biscuit, I'll eat the whole packet.

Candidate for most depressing suggestion ever? Grin

If you get nice fruit then its not a depressing suggestion.
What others say is true though- you will get used to it, and the habit will fall away. I enjoy a cup of tea and a kitkat when the kids have gone to bed and binge watch crap like Real Housewives with more tea but no snacks. You may find you sleep better without a full stomach too - I know I do.

I find that after day 5 it's OK. You could eat 1-9 to make sure you get a chance to snack if you wanted to?

When I do IF, I tend to do 9:30-5:30 and then just stop eating, but like anything else, it does require discipline.

How are you hungry at night? Do you eat your evening meal very early?

We usually eat between 6.30 and 7.30. I'm never hungry until the next day.

I do IF 12 till 8 which allows time for a G and T and small snack if needed. However, I'm not slim which proves that my strategy doesnt work!

Netflix and sweet chilli crisps with dips are such a killer combination

Echo pp the longer you stick at it the easier it is. 8 used to be a sod for doritos/ chocolate of an evening but I had dental issues a couple weeks ago and it scared me into giving up eating sugar and rubbish. I feel so much better for it and don't even want it any more.

I’m on a diet, I know what you mean about evenings. I just don’t have snack food in the house (dh has his chocolate, I’m not too bothered by it). Saying that, I’ve just eaten a ramekin (because there was so little left!) of leftover salad. Weigh in day tomorrow and I fully intend to go nuts. I have a burger defrosting, there are chips in the freezer, there’s decent wine and I might eat something full of fat for breakfast-the neighbour who I only met yesterday sent round a jar of plum jam, drool!

@JesusInTheCabbageVan So, so true! @Justme02 your evenings sound like a party, maybe just add vigorous dancing and snack on?

IME it's easiest to go cold turkey. Stop all snacks. Have nothing. Its shit for afee days but you do get over it my problem is that having a little something is NEVER enough so why waste the calories trying to scratch and itch when I know I'll still be itchy after!

Alternatively, munch on ice poles. 15 calories a pop! You get a lot of bag for your buck.

It definitely gets easier to not snack in the evenings. I'm at the stage where I'm not fussed about it now (thank goodness cos I'm fat too, but a bit less fat than a few months ago). Part of the trick is to find something really gripping to watch, also try to find something to do with your hands - colouring, crochet, solitaire, whatever floats your boat. You could try lying in bed watching stuff on your phone for a few days rather than going downstairs to break the habit too.
