Parking in Brighton??

Splitsunrise · 24/07/2020 19:30

I know I know, have heard it’s a nightmare. But will be coming from Lewes and it looks like there isn’t a bus when we need to go - 10am ish tomorrow morning. Park and ride apparently not running.

Does anyone have any tips of where else to park nearby to walk into the centre bit?

Thanks!

Brighton train station car park - central, cheap (for brighton). Otherwise theres an NCP carpark in churchill square and north laine.

Also if anyone knows what’s good to to do there (especially what’s good at the moment) would be grateful! Will only be spending morning/early afternoon there

Could you get the train? Wouldn't take long from Lewes and then you wouldn't have to worry about parking fees. The other alternative is to park for free at The Marina and then bus along to the centre from there?

Personally I’d take the train in from Lewes. After a few terrible Brighton parking experiences I’ve resolved to never try and park there again!

Original plan was to park at Lewes but parking seems expensive and ideally we’d like to get there earlier ( but personally yes I would have just done this!!)

@flower1677 thank you for tip about marina - is it easy to find on a map and do you happen to know the bus route number or if it is running? Quite a few seem not to be, though maybe that’s more countryside routes

I used to live 45 minutes away from Brighton along the coast, I always got the train. Far cheaper. I paid £25 in the NCP in Churchill Square one evening to park for an evening whilst I went to a concert at the Brighton Centre. Shockingly expensive.

@fairydustandpixies £25!!!!!! That’s stupid. I’m not the one paying but still that is ridiculous! Do you know if it’s the same in the train station one? It may take slightly longer training to Lewes but it sound simpler....!

There's a bus every 10/15 mins from lewes to Brighton. Pay and display in county hall car park, bus stop just outside by the church.

Lots of buses running from the marina to the centre, the 12's/ 7s off the top of my head. Check Brighton and Hove buses website. The other alternative is to park at Glynde (in the village carpark for free next to the station, not the train station carpark) and train in from there, less regular but they stop there every half hour so not completely irregular.

Train station is the cheapest central place to park. That's where we park if we are going to be there more than 2 hours.

And yes the marina is very easy to find

Marina is easy to find. If you’re coming from Lewes, come off the a27 at Falmer, along the Falmer road to Woodingdean, right at the lights, keep going along Warren road until the next set of lights, turn left down Wilson Avenue and head towards the sea until you get to the marina. Buses might be less frequent but I can still guarantee there’ll be one every 5 minutes into town from the bus stop by Macdonalds. Nearly all buses will be going that way unless they say Eastbourne/Saltdean/Rottingdean/Woodingdean on the front. Or if the weather is nice, the walk along the prom from the marina probably takes about half an hour.

As for things to do in Brighton, it depends what you’re in to! Usually I’d recommend just soaking up the atmosphere in The Lanes and North Laine if you’ve not been before. Or you could grab some food in the marina overlooking the boats and go for a walk along the Undercliff towards Ovingdean and Rottingdean if you aren’t bothered about shops and sightseeing.

I usually park at Trafalgar St, never thought of parking at the station but will do that going forward. The bus from the marina is a faff.

Head towards Preston park .15 min walk to Churchill Square. The marina is a good option and use the directions that Rowboat has given. It’s also a lovely drive over the downs and cliff road to the marina .

A full day parking at the Brighton station CP is £14, it's on stroudly road at the back of the station (though agree train from Lewes is easier)

From Brighton station you can duck down onto Trafalgar st and then you are in the North Laine - eclectic shops/cafes etc. You can head to pavillion gardens and see the Pavillion, then walk through the south lanes to the beach/pier. Hope this helps a bit OP. Brighton local here.
