How do you snap out of a slump?

Today will be the third day this week I’ve watched the hours fritter away whilst work I should be doing remains undone and I feel guilt for my children being at nursery whilst mummy is noodling away on the Internet all day.

Feeling extra paranoid atm as cuts are happening at work but I’m a static lump of ennui right now with absolutely fuck all motivation to get anything done and I’m sick of sitting in front of my laptop day after day after day and I’m missing my office and colleagues.

It can’t just be me, right? What gets you over the hump?

I just force myself. I’ll give myself a little longer to arse around then I’ll say that by 1pm I must be at the desk and be doing my work.

I know I get in a slump if I’ve been sleeping or eating badly. Maybe go for a walk then get to it
Can you chat to colleagues from time to time?

I'm the same. I am not sure I will ever get out of it and feel like it I am just waiting to be sacked. I miss people to bounce ideas off etc

I’m not sure I would class 3 days as a slump but following your thread for tips as I’ve been in one for 6 years

I've not had any motivation for weeks, normally a bit of music helps.
I think I just need to be on my own for a day, constant companionship in the form of my family for the last 4 months has been exhausting!

Not work related, but I just can't get going some days, so on those days I ask Alexa to set me a reminder and I give myself that time period to get over myself. grin

The main thing for me is that I don’t get angry at myself for being in a slump. Nobody can be on form all the time.

I’ve got better (mostly*) at nudging myself out of it by just deciding one thing I can do, however tiny. Rather than thinking of the huge to do list that makes me not want to bother at all because I’ll never manage it.

*I say mostly as today is not one of the days I have managed!
