Pretty much in the title, What bike does your eight year old ride?

Trying to pick one for DS who isn’t confident, but has outgrown his much smaller Isla bike.

I think she has this one, not this years style as it used to belong to DS. cube

Wow, he’d love that! Thanks. Is the 24 an OK size for her? We’ve got a 24 Isla bike and it’s too big for him.

A 20in Hoy. He is tall for his age but this is still perfect a year on from when we bought it. We just raise the saddle. Might get him a new one for Christmas though.

Yes, it's the right size for her, she's average height and started using it last autumn. Pretty hard-wearing, DS put it through the mill! You should check his height for the frame size.

My very average sized 6 year old (118cm) has an isla 24 with the seat right down. You can remove the back reflector to get the seat a bit further down. I'm surprised it doesn't fit your 8 year old.

My dd (7) has just got a 24 inch procycle.
30 quid second hand. She loves it.

DS has that Cube bike mentioned about at 8 (also an older model). He’s short for his age and the 24” was perfect.

My short 8 year old was riding a 24 inch Isla creig at that age. Shes nearly 10 now and just moved up to the 26.

DD (7, but tall) is on this:
www.evanscycles.com/pinnacle-aspen-24-inch-2020-kids-bike-EV275990
It's lightweight, and goes well despite a fair bit of use by two previous users. The saddle goes down a good way.

We’ve got a Frog bike here. I can’t remember the size but he got it two years ago and will need it replacing soon. He just fitted it when we got it. They are beautiful bikes.

She has a Islabike Beinn 24 Mtb and a Frog 67 road bike.

Both second hand. She’s the 4th child (2nd of mine) to have the Islabike.

Second hand frog 62.
Bought when just turned 8, still going a year later.

My DD is not 8 for another few months, is 125cm so very average height but has been riding an Isla 24 for the last two months with no issue

Report
Paddingtonthebear · 20/07/2020 17:10

Bear in mind that the Isla sizes are a bit smaller (I think in the reach?) than other bikes so if your son finds the 24 Isla too big then a 24 Cube or other brand will most likely be even bigger for him

Islabike frames are designed so that bigger wheels can go on smaller frames / this is useful when racing (I’ve been involved in kids bike racing for about 8 years. Anywhere between 70-100% of bikes in U12 races and younger are generally Islas).

So yes, a 24” wheel Islabike has a smaller frame than a 24” wheel other bike.
