OMG!! That WOULD make me laugh. But, if it is, it has a sense of logic in it for him. A wife cannot testify against a husband can she?

A wife can't be forced to testify against her husband - not that she can't. But - not sure what the position is under American law?

After the year we've had this would not supirise me in the least!

@nancy75 great minds think alike.

If I was writing this all as a film in the 1970's disaster movie style I feel like it would make for a quite compelling sub-plot.

@MargaretHooper In America, a spouse can only testify if they choose to do so. They are not compelled to by law.

@cheezy I reckon she'd overlook any of his less savoury traits if he kept her in the manner to which she's become accustomed. Wonder what Fergie would say?!

OMG original poster! Possibly a nice cliff hanger for the movie rights!

I understand one is best served on hand and foot by those pre scened and selected according to age?

Does she partake in dough balls a la Pizza Express. I always only remember nothing but my supper excursions at Pizza Express even after decades. Everything else pales into distance memory.

Caveat - humour alert and for fictional movie purposes only!

I never thought of that, it would be an amazing twist.

@ComDummings

Possibly also had a spouse birthday lockdown detour to a beauty spot for some flower therapy whist Covided and testing eye sight to see if one safely with family in tow drive cross country without bumping into cars or pesky locals with snap happy smartphones etc.

@RedDiamond - ah, so it's the same as here.

I didn't know anything about the legal aspects.m, just figured that it would be handy as they'd protect one another by omission. It actually seems all the more likely if it would mean that they had some legal way of protecting one another. Starting to wonder if it's really true now
