Brooklyn Beckham is engaged

They've been dating 7 months and he's had a series of girlfriends.
Would you be happy if your 21 year old said they were engaged? Irrespective of who he is if he was my kid I would feel that he was too young and they'd not been together long enough. But what would I know?

I could judge if it was my son. I had him aged 21 and I’m still with the dad 16 years later

HoneysuckIejasmine Sat 11-Jul-20 20:17:56

I imagine he's grown up a lot faster than other kids. I can't get excited about it. Engagement isn't legally binding and divorce is possible in future if they do get married and it doesn't go well.

Herja Sat 11-Jul-20 20:18:59

Of course he's not! He's surely only 12 or so... grin

I was engaged at 22. Baaaaddd idea. Still, live and learn. I'd not be too happy if it was my child, but I'd probably keep my mouth shut.

She is 25 years old and presumably considering the fact her father is a billionaire unlikely to be after him for fame or money, which might be quite refreshing to him.

Getting engaged doesn’t mean they will actually go ahead and get married. Lots of people seem to get engaged as a commitment rather than going ahead with marriage.

I'd more be hmm at the fact they've only been together 7 months if he was my son, I was engaged before then so it's not the age that would bother me more the fact they haven't dated long at all

shartsi Sat 11-Jul-20 20:22:22

His life, his choices, would be of the same opinion if it was my son.
It shows an ability to commit to something, kind of emotional maturity in a way.

Soubriquet Sat 11-Jul-20 20:22:47

No way is he 21 already!

Wow!

And no I wouldn’t judge.

Why would I? I was engaged and had my first baby aged 24..

Still with dh 7 years later (wedding anniversary tomorrow in fact!)

homemadecommunistrussia Sat 11-Jul-20 20:25:00

I wouldn't be able judge I was engaged at 17.

KurriKawari Sat 11-Jul-20 20:26:51

Hope the media leave them both alone.

Mytinyman Sat 11-Jul-20 20:26:56

I got engaged at 21. We were supposed to get married in October but corona postponed it to next may, i think if you know you know smile

Bouledeneige Sat 11-Jul-20 20:29:13

I wouldn't say anything if he was my kid. I'd say all the right things but I'd be a bit worried. But as you say, engagements don't always convert into marriage. And yes he will be a very rich young man so if it doesn't work out they will both be alright.

But what do I know? I didn't get married till I was 34 and that didn't work out. But we did get 20 years together before it went pear shaped.

Is that true? I just assumed it was fake news.

Vickmo Sat 11-Jul-20 20:31:02

KurriKawari

Hope the media leave them both alone.

Doubt they want to be left alone by the media.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry Sat 11-Jul-20 20:31:18

I was married, owned a house and had a baby at 21.
My eldest had her daughter at 21 and while I wish she'd have travelled/gone to uni ect I could hardly judge.

thenightsky Sat 11-Jul-20 20:32:41

I was engaged at 19 and married at 21. Its our 40th anniversary this year. My parents were very happy with my choice at the time.

coronabeer23 Sat 11-Jul-20 20:32:50

I wouldn’t be very happy about it, infact I’d be extremely upset but that’s my son, I think that he has so much to do and enjoy before he settles down. I can’t comment on BB.

Missmonkeypenny Sat 11-Jul-20 20:35:02

I wouldnt judge. I was engaged at 21, married at 23. Our parents were nothing but ecstatic and very supportive and I would be the same unless I had real concerns about the person they were wanting to marry.

Mumoftwoyoungkids Sat 11-Jul-20 20:35:44

When I was 20 I got engaged to someone I had been with for 7 months.

I’m now 40. We are celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary in a few weeks.

It does seem very young. But I wouldn’t have a leg to stand on if I tried to object.

Frownette Sat 11-Jul-20 20:37:19

Who gives a shit? It'll either work out or it won't

Teacher12345 Sat 11-Jul-20 20:39:47

It means nothing. I know loads of people who got engaged between the ages of 21-24. I was the only one to actually get married.

I wouldn't judge the age, would be concerned if they started talking about actual plans to wed in the next 12 months but that is it.

Waxonwaxoff0 Sat 11-Jul-20 20:43:46

I got married at 21 and was a single mum by 23. I wouldn't want my DS to go down that route but it's his life, not mine.

PenelopePitstop49 Sat 11-Jul-20 20:45:55

I was married with a baby by 21, so for that I wouldn't judge.

It would be the knowing each other 7 months I'd be more concerned about, to be honest.

He just seems to have little direction too - he's got a lot of finding himself and growing up to do. The only thing that may help is Mum and Dad letting go of the apron strings I guess.

copingnotcoping Sat 11-Jul-20 20:48:08

I was married at 21, it was a huge mistake.

KetoWinnie Sat 11-Jul-20 20:49:27

judge? no.

He can afford to fix a mistake. There won't be any poverty or ruined lives or lost opportunities I'm sure.
