Can not stay awake

I start work early and get off early, but even on holiday over the past year I cannot get through the day without having a nap or feeling extremely fatigued. I generally fall asleep for up to an hour, anywhere from 3:00-7:00pm. Then fall asleep for the night at around 10:30.

I’m mid-50’s, healthy and get a fair amount of exercise, eat well. I am fed up with being fatigued.

Is this fairly common at any age? A menopause thing? Pardon me while I have another nap.

Well, not just a menopause thing since I'm in my 20s and am always falling asleep anywhere, any time. Do you think you could be anaemic?

Whenever I was at home (as opposed to being out at work), I always wanted a nap during the day. Loved it. It's perfectly normal in my view. Now Im retired I can sleep whenever I choose - however, sometimes it's difficult to get to sleep.

It’s the feeling I have to sleep that I don’t like, I’d like to have more energy.

@unstableunicorn I don’t think I’m anemic. I’ve been tested before and it always comes back fine.

I'm a similar age and feel the same. The trick is to keep busy, if I stop I feel exhausted but if I go and prep dinner or do the laundry then im ok and I pick up again,

@purplepeopleeaters You’re right, if I keep going I can usually manage, but if I sit down I fall asleep straight away, even if someone is on the phone in the same room (or typing on our incredibly loud keyboard).

I have so many things I want to do, from trying to figure out better ways to earn an income to just going for a walk after dinner, but nothing sounds as lovely as falling asleep.

I think I need to up my B12 (I’m vegetarian and think maybe I’m low again), but otherwise I’m not sure.

I'd also get your thyroid function checked.

Thanks Katniss, I vaguely recall being tired enough as a kid that they got my thyroid checked and it was underactive.

Coincidentally I had marmite sandwiches for lunch yesterday and now I think about it I wasn't as tired. Today will be another story, I haven't been able to sleep yet, double servings of marmite and coffee on tap I think.

Years ago I had my B12 tested and it was so low I had to get injections. So it could be that, or something else. But I have gone and take a B12 (though I think it takes a while to build up). Marmite toast for breakfast in the morning.

I guess in a way I was sort of hoping everyone feels like this (while at the same time being pretty sure it’s not normal).
