I know itโ€™s not the best time to get a job but the thought of another 2/3 months of him doing not a lot is driving me ๐Ÿ˜œ

My then 16 year old DS refused to work anywhere but Waitrose despite my nagging, but eventually did their online tests and questionnaires, had an interview and was taken on! He works every Saturday and really likes it. Heโ€™s now 17 and loves the financial independence ( and they pay well too). Is that maybe an option for your DS? Itโ€™s eight hours per week but heโ€™s offered overtime too.

Yes, but she is currently furloughed.

Yes anything would be good and the financial independence is very appealing! Do you have to pass the online test/questionnaire to get an interview?

Yes, mine works in a takeaway. He works a few hours on a Friday and Saturday teatime/evening and is currently doing a few extra shifts in the week.
He really enjoys it and loves the financial independence.
My DH knows the owner of the shop and this is how he got the job but I believe places like McDonalds take on 16 year olds.

MY ds had a job at 16 working in a restaurants kitchen doing dishes now he is 18 and still does the dishes but also helps prep starters and desserts.. he is very able at school and could easily manage both.

Dd is 16 and doesnt have a job yet.... she is hoping to get one for christmas but she wanted to concentrate on school work which I understand.

Our DC have all been encouraged to work from 15 onwards, the 2 eldest are both employed but furloughed at present. I think it would be hard to find work at the moment but he should definitely keep trying, supermarkets will employ from 16 so it's worth applying there

Sorry Pilates, yes you do have to pass all the online tests to get an interview. But I think the interview was fairly easy in the end. If your DS has a nice manner and seems keen he should be fine. Itโ€™s all about putting the customer first at Waitrose. Feel free to PM me if youโ€™d like any more info Smile

My son worked two days a week in the kitchen of a cafe. He was furloughed for two months then made redundant. He's starting to look again now - his college has started up again but doesn't take much of his time and his one day a week work experience was in a gym so that's not happening either. We are a tourist hot spot so hope once the hotels and campsites reopen places will start hiring again.

Both of mine worked in a Chinese restaurant from when they were 16. They worked on the front desk, and in the kitchen prepping the vegetables. Both are adults now but they remember those days fondly. They got heaps of customer service experience, and are both excellent at peeling and chopping all manner of vegetables !

No. Because the stay at home, maintain 2 metre messages means it is difficult for anyone to go to work, never mind some one with anxiety issues.

One is on temp lay off until 1 Aug (Lifeguard and pool closed), one is hunting (because she was supposed to be out of the country volunteering, but....) and one has a summer camp helper type job pencilled in for August if they go ahead with programming. Theyโ€™ve all worked from 15 (one from 13).
