I'm sorry I can't answer that but I can ask why does it take longer for my nails to dry if I paint them just before heading out than watching tv in the evening ? Hmm

einstein - that is indeed a great mystery of our time! also if you was out your salad drawer from the fridge it is so difficult to get it really dry unless you use loads of kichen roll!

Why did Which give this washing machine a "Best Buy" when it's brutal to the clothes. Everything is wearing out way more than it did with our old washer.

Plastic has a lower mass than ceramic so cools faster which means the droplets don't evaporate.

I am currently wondering why my baby has to hold my nose when he is breastfeeding. It makes it very hard to see to type!

Weeping Willow can't help I'm afraid.
My question - why do some hairs (think chin or upper lip) go from non-existent to 6 inches long and incredibly thick in a nano-second.

How did my elder daughter turn from a baby to a child I failed to lift up in the blink of an eye?
(Blink of eye being 9 years... But suddenly failing to be able to pick up her this morning while dancing has made me a bit teary! She will be as tall as me soon)

If a recipe calls for sherry which sherry should you use? I don't cook with sherry but surely it can't be Harvey's Bristol Cream?

listsandbudgets · 30/06/2020 13:55

Troysmammy if you drink enough you won't really care which sherry, just slosh it in any old how.

Roseylentil I came to ask much the same thing. Where does dirt and dust come from?

@einstein and @weepingwillow I'm so glad I know the proper answer to that. At work (when not furloughed) we use an industrial dishwasher that washes and dries a load in minutes. I assumed the ceramics got hotter than the plastic and hence come out dry, whereas the plastic cups are always wet (and have been tossed around the dishwasher so probably have a pool of water inside - we've started to do plastics by hand).

Ooh! I know this one (thanks to my son's usborne book about poo...)

It's coloured by the dead red blood cells, which your body gets rid of in the poo

Why do you wash your body, clothes, dishes etc in hot water but use cold water for brushing your teeth?

Weepingwillow your nose is probably only as far as your baby can see, and it looks like a fun thing to grabGrin

ooo i know the aswer to one and possibly two

@ShatInTheHat nail polish dries quicker in cold conditions due to its make up so if you head out of the door it will dry quicker than cosy and warm watching tv

@mydiary poo is brown due to its bacteria content. Most people think poo is mostly food but its actually made up of a high number of bacteria

I can't answer this one, but my son put his whole hand in my mouth every time he fed, which went on u TIL he was nearly 2. So much for a nice cuppa while he was distracted

Posted too soon

the bacteria is mixed with water, dead blood cells and other sheddings to make it brown.

Green poo is when it comes through the guts too fast and yellow poo is high fat content lol

A childhood pondering of mine was: when playing pin the tail on the donkey, why couldn't I see the colours of the scarf covering my eyes? I also wondered what the point of the game was. Wink

@safariboot

Presumably, the new one agitates more and cleans better. I don't know for sure. I'm still baffled by the salesman telling me one particular machine washed clothes in a gentle way as they float.

I've since had a proper explanation of that one but the salesman put me right off. I thought he was one of those baffle-the-little-woman-with-bullshit types.

Because your eyes were closed? Grin

No I think it's because your eyes see by reflecting off the light and because the scarf is blocking the light, it stops you being able to see? I don't actually know but it makes sense in my head.

I have sensitive teeth so I use warm water to brush!

If you use rinse aid in your dishwasher the plastics will come out dry. This applies even if you are using a tablet that says you don’t need rinse aid.

@Hileni No, my eyes were definitely open under the blindfold; I think I was in denial that it would stop me seeing. Wink As an adult, I know the answer, but I pondered this so much at the time, I almost forgot the task I was supposed to be doing (pinning the tail).

Why does my elderly cat constantly pace up and down when she's waiting to be fed? Is she trying to keep her step count up?
