Film suggestions for Teens

Does anyone have any film suggestion for 13 and 15 year old DD and DS? I am determined to entice them out of their rooms!

They say they like comedy but anything I pick, they wander off after 5 minutes but won’t come up with any suggestions of their own. I’m open to any kind of film.

Thanks

@ricekrispie22 has a great list! And VERY YES to Little Miss Sunshine (though possibly somewhat mature for 13?) and The Truman Show. Brilliant, both of them.

- The Princess Bride (every time!)
- Robin Hood Men in Tights
- actually anything Mel Brooks
- any of the Monty Python films as well
- Galaxy Quest!!!!! (which I avoided for many years thinking it was something it's not, but is one of the funniest films ever)
- What We Do in the Shadows
- Office Space
- Legally Blonde
- Super Troopers (warning: weed comedy)
- The Cabin in the Woods

They might like films that are funny because they're hilariously awful:
- Manos the Hands of Fate
- The Room
- Troll 2
- Battlefield Earth
- Catwoman (Halle Berry)
- The Happening!!

Aaaaaand I'll stop myself there because 'hilariously awful' is my favourite genre of film, otherwise I'd go on all day...

We watched fighting with my family at the weekend. It’s based on a true story and has some funny lines in it. 15yo was chucking away.

Does it have to be a film? We have been watching Brooklyn 99 on Netflix with DS over lockdown - it's brilliant and very funny.

Go old-school - DS loves Ferris Bueller's Day Off and The Full Monty.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Embarrassingly, I haven’t heard of lots of them. I’ll be investigating them all today.

And no, it doesn’t have to be a film. Or a comedy for that matter. I just want something they will watch.

To the poster who suggested Brooklyn 99 - they love this. DS watches it over and over again!

I was in a shop once when a woman was ranting about Shaun of the Dead. Her 18 year old had bought it home and they had let the 10 year old watch it (its rated 15) and he was traumatised and had nightmares. She was going to write to the director and everything as it was advertised as a comedy not a horror film hmm

I've been watching Agatha Christie Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot (taped from Itv3 as they're on at 3am!), DS12 asked if he could watch one with me and he was hooked!

Stranger Things series on Netflix. If you haven’t seen it, there is something for everyone. Sort of coming of age plus supernatural.

The Goldbergs - American comedy series set in 80s on All4. Based on the writer Adam Goldberg’s own life. As a child he filmed his family and at the end of each episode there is a funny real video clip of his family Showing what he based that episode on. It’s pretty light but DS and I happily watch an episode or 2 together.

Lots more great suggestions. Thank you. I’ve added loads to our watch list.

I’d forgotten about The Goldbergs. They love Friday Night Dinner which I think is a bit similar.

The Good Place. Ted Danson plays Michael who is in charge of an afterlife place. My teens loved this but I’ve only caught the odd episode leading to me asking annoying questions about plot.
