Dd lied | Mumsnet

God I don’t know where to start or if this is right place to get advice. But here goes.. Since sept there have been a big change in dd 12. She has just moved up to secondary school. She has a whole new set of friends, who she is obsessed with keeping up with, it’s kinda taken over her, over shadowed her personality if you like by desperately wanting to fit in with this new group. She told a lie to her friends about a medical condition she has (but doesn’t have). This was just before lock down and we talked it through I explained the consequences of lies and she said she had sorted it all out and her friends now understood the truth. Fast forward to tonight at 8pm I get a text from one of the girls mums saying hope your daughter is ok in hospital today! I was on my way to work but rang my dd to discuss. She came clean and told me everything, in March she explained to her friends that she was having a procedure on 2/6/2020 which would cure her condition. She told this lie so she didn’t have to own up to the other lie! She was absolutely distraught and sobbing and saying everyone will hate her because the lie got out of control. I explained that she has to tell the truth and I will be there with her tomorrow and we will call her friends. I explained she needs to take responsibility for this lie and allow her friends to be upset and possibly angry with her. I also explained I will be there to support her through this but she needs to own up to what she has done. She is worried she will have no friends which is a big possibility it is a big lie. However I have no doubt the right thing is to move forward and take responsibility for what she has created. Now though at 4:45 on my break from work and I’m tired and a bit emotional about it all! I’m worried this is a bigger issue. Is this normal for 12 yo to lie about being seriously ill!! She has never previously been in any trouble or dramas. She is a quiet girl who always has good reports and people very complimentary about her, she always seems happy until she started secondary school she seems more stressed and less herself. In lockdown I have seen her become herself again and be silly with us and let go a bit. I’m dreading her going back to school! I have asked someone front he school to call me to explain what has happened because I think it’s important someone there knows, so she can have a safe place to go at school if needed. Any advice/support will be much appreciated
