Eid in lockdown

How are you celebrating eid in lockdown?

I am celebrating Eid at home for the first time. I have been practicing making biryani as I have never made it before. I got it right on second attempt, so quite pleased. I've decorated and bought presents, which I wouldn't normally do. I want it to be special despite circumstances. I'll dress up and WhatsApp family.

Not celebrating Eid ourselves ( not being g Muslim) but did buy flowers and chocolates for our lovely neighbours last night which I will leave in their porch in a bit then text to say they are there.

Normally they would ask us round for snacks but obviously not this year

I celebrated Eid yesterday at home with DH and kids. We did some doorstep visits and some zoom calls to see the rest of the family which was nice.

Unfortunately quite a few of my friends and family who have so far adhered to lockdown rules decided to break them and have family get togethers at their parents houses. I just can't believe how stupid people can be!

And today my sil (who has literally not adhered to any lockdown rules) wanted to send her two kids over to play at my house. I normally have them over on the day after Eid but given the circumstances I can't believe she even asked! I felt so awful saying no but I don't want to undo all the good that we have done so far. I am also a key worker in a school so I could potentially be putting other in danger 🤦.

My neighbour has had lots of family popping round all throughout Ramadan but yesterday there was a big party (obvious reason...)

Lockdown restrictions have largely been ignored by her family. On one hand it's lovely that she has family who are always visiting her (she was widowed a few years ago and is quite elderly) but on the other hand, she is vulnerable and its unfair to her to be putting her and others at risk.

It must be very hard to have such a significant festival during this crisis.

Yes it's been very difficult. My mil wanted to have us over as she is a widow and is on her own but we refused as she is at risk. She couldn't help but point out to us that a few of her friends were going to have all their kids and grandkids over. I just don't know what the right thing is anymore.

We celebrated Eid at home but visited family from afar tbh I’ve loved doing Eid at home with just dh and dcs because normally we’re out all day at mils then to dms so kids don’t get to play with their gifts. Also we could choose the menu so had spaghetti as kids don’t like biriyani

Stupid question (sorry) but how do you pronounce eid?

We are not Muslim (obviously!) but yesterday we went to a small gatherine with my sister in law's family who are. (No lockdown where we live.)

Yes we are not in lockdown but we are all supposed to still be social distancing and not going into anyone elses homes or having large get togethers.

I enjoyed spending time with just huby and kids but it's frustrating as most people just seemed to make up their own rules. I just hope it doesn't lead to people become ill in the next few weeks.
