Air fryer, yay or nay?

Amazon have a Tower one on a one day deal. Are they worth it or just one more thing that's going to sit on top of the fridge covered in dust and glaring at me?

I love ours. Homemade chips (with very little oil), wedges, crispy tofu. DH was sceptical but is a total convert. Disclaimer: there are only 2 of us so it might be of less use if you are a large family

I love our one! It's not a Tower though. We use it probably 2-3 times a week for:

Making properly crispy oven fries
Cooking fishfingers, pasties etc in half the time they would take in the oven
'Roasting' veg like aubergine and peppers (better results than the oven)
Evenly cooking fried chicken, homemade Glamorgan sausages etc

It is good for homemade chips - not as good as a real fryer, but better than the oven I find they taste very sweet (in a nice way).

I use ours at least once a week - it’s really handy and more useful than I ever thought it would be. It makes the best chips!

Also if you have kids its easy to use. DD12 can use the oven but sometimes forgets ti turn it off. With the air fryer she has to turn it off before getting the food out, so much safer.

Hmm. Good so far. I've been coming back to them for ages but never bought. Tempted.

I love ours. It's a tower one. Use it 3-4 times a week. It makes beyond beautiful sweet potato fries! 😍

I love ours, use it 3-4 times a week. I hesitated for months before getting one as I wasn’t sure it’d be used.

Do airfryers stink the house out ? I remember the deep fat fryer and it wasn’t nice.

We just got one and I am a total convert. DH bought it for us and I thought it was a waste of money but it’s great, sits next to the microwave and I don’t really notice it there already.

On our 3rd Tefal Actifry wouldn't be without it
New one is much quicker than previous models We always get the biggest capacity so much more use when family are round
No smell

I put of getting one for years due to the cost. Eventually got one about 12 months ago and we love it.

Use it several times a week for things like chips, sweet potato wedges, stir fry, burgers, sausages, pork chop, lamb chops... basically anything that use to go under the grill (mainly because it's much easiest to clean than the grill as it goes in the dishwasher!). Did I mention it does a great stir-fry :)

We've had ours 2 weeks and we are a little bit in love with it

Wow I really thought everyone would tell me they're a waste of money. You all seem to love them!

I'm off to investigate. Thanks!

Game changer, use it almost every day.

I’ll admit to being the one who has one on top of the cupboard gathering dust! I think I used it once for chips, didn’t really like them so haven’t used it since. Luckily my ex bought it so I didn’t waste money on it. I should get rid of it really as I’ll never use it, along with the pizza maker (also bought by ex!) which also is never used!

I use mine all the time.

It’s one that’s like an oven shape though with shelves rather than a bucket type one.

Absolutely love mine. I only ever do whole roast chicken in it no - sod the hot oven! Ihr 200c - best juiciest chicken ever. Also use for. Sausages, burgers, homemade nuggets and fries, drumsticks. Just love it.

How do you do stir fry in the air fryer? Interesting!

We have used ours once since we've bought it, we ended up with soggy chips

Report
KurriKawari · 23/05/2020 13:32

I bought mine when our oven broke and I was waiting for a replacement part. Gets used 3-4 times even though our oven is working now. Our oven broke and I got rid of it and havent missed it. Would miss the actifry.

Soggy chips??? Impossible as you only use a tiny amount of oil.

I use mine about x 5 weekly.
Scampi & McCains French fries are great in it.

I do a jacket potato in the microwave for 5 mins, then 20 in the air fryer.

I haven't used oil in anything I have put in there.

The only thing is that as I put the basket & the bottom of the fryer in the dishwasher, it has started to ruin the bottom of the fryer a bit (inside)

But I say that, I have been putting it in the dishwasher for 2 years!

Really handy. Brilliant for chips, wedges etc. but also great for things like sausages and bacon because you don't have to stand over them while they cook.
Economical too I think. You can bake some garlic bread to go with your pasta without having to heat a whole oven just for one thing.

Another one here who uses it two or three times a week, and we’ve had one for about six years now.

And dare I say it, but if you DO like McCain Home Fries etc, they come out amazing. Ditto frozen parsnips etc.

I love mine too. Best piece of kitchen equipment I ever had. Do need a new one though as the lid sticks in mine (had it three years using at least twice a week)
