Are AirPods (wireless earphones) worth the money?

GlitterToast · 30/04/2020 14:45

My partner wants a pair of AirPods for his birthday. I will probably buy him them, but I'm shocked at the high prize! The cheapest I can find is £130! Shock

Are they worth the money?

Wireless earphones - yes.

AirPods - not at all. which is why he wants you to buy them for him instead of spending his own money

Airpods are absolutely worth the money if you can afford them. I tried many pairs of wireless before I gave in and bought AirPods. I tried all price ranges and nothing comes close.

I love my airpods

They help me hear on the phone much better

I can chat with my mum whilst washing up ironing etc so happy to chat for longer

Cute case with my name on and tells me my battery life

Can find them if I lose them

Stay in whilst running well and no wires to my armband

I could go on

Only drawback is the cost

I bought a knock-off set from Amazon for £10 and could not be happier ... I would link, but the page has gone. It was December last year.

Regular apple airpods really aren’t great. I’m astounded at the hype of them, the quality is really bad. The Pro version is better apparently though🤷‍♀️

Ds bought his little sister a knock off pair for £20 for Christmas and a set for himself. Both love them and they work great.

I got a pair of AirPods for a present and the sound quality is brilliant, but I do feel like a bit of a twat wearing them though.

Don’t get the knockoffs, it’s not the same in terms of sound quality.

Love mine.

I got my DH a cheap knock off pair and they were rubbish.

AirPods pro are my next purchase. Just waiting for my AirPods to die first 😬

The standard and pro versions are different shapes. My DH has the standard version and they drive me insane because the sound leak is ridiculous but it was the same with wired Apple headphones. I am so tempted to buy him the pro version in the hope they actually fit his ears and I don't have to listen to whatever he is listening to. I do think it depends on the size and shape of your ears though. Does your OH have wired apple headphones? How well do they fit his ears?

I have JLab JBuds Air True Wireless which were £50 with a 2 year warranty from Curry's and I think they're great. I couldn't really justify spending the money on AirPods and have been really happy with the compromise. Wireless headphones are really quite liberating!

Just to add my OH has the pros and the sound quality is excellent

I am still very happy with mine though and the smaller case

I bought a knockoff pair first and they were awful. They were massive so they hurt my ears, plus there was a rough plastic ‘seam’ that cut the inside of my ear.

I bought real ones and it’s like night and day. Great sound quality and the stay in comfortably. I bought mine from the O2 shop (I’m not even with O2!) as they do student discount, so I got 20% off.

I should also add, DH is the least showy person ever and he doesn’t care for fancy tech but he was so impressed he immediately bought his own. He’s a postie so he uses them every day for hours while working and he loves them.

normal wireless in ear headphones (not airpod ripoffs) yes - fantastic idea, great sound quality, noise blocking even when they're not turned on, great value (less than £30 from amazon on a lightning deal) and don't fall out of your ears so great for running etc.

airpods - incredibly, ridiculously expensive and don't stay in your ears so negating the whole point of wireless headphone imho!

I tried AirPods in the shop but they didn't fit well. I bought Bose sounds pity in the end. They are brilliant!

They are ok. Just ok. I use my beats X more because they offer more comfort, better sound and block out more noise.

Do the normal iPhone headphones for in his ear? Because a total waste of money if not!

AirPods are the most annoying shape, and because there’s no give if your ear isn’t the right size they won’t work.

You can get a pair of wireless earphones on Amazon for £30, I got mine 2 years ago and they're amazing! They don't do the same ones any more, but there's loads of options on there with great reviews. AirPods are really uncomfortable IMO.

I love it Air Pod Pros and the 3 different sizes of silicone buds mean you can't get a really good secure fit.
