Should I give up on my book?

I love reading and love having a book I can't wait to read each other evening. Every now and then I buy one that I can't get into, less frequent now I use an e reader and get samples.
But I'm into one at the moment. I can't remember who's who and can't say I really care. Nothing is happening, it's just so dull. I had a look last night to see if I was almost finished and was shocked to learn I was less than a quarter of the way through.
But I invested 99p :o and have invested time so far. I am mildly interested in how it ends and would like someone just to tell me so I can give up on it.

Trouble is our real lives are so extraordinary atm that any fiction has to be unusually persuasive to hold interest.

I would read something else for now. Given the circumstances you want something really good just now. You can always go back to it at some point and try again.

I regularly give up on books...but when I find a really good one I also happily re-read regularly so figure the two balance each other...what I need to work out is how to delete the ones I didn't like from my kindle so I don't have to scroll through them!!

I'm working extra hours and also doing them around children (who to be fair are easy). When I have time to switch off I want something gripping - I'm happy with chick lit at the moment. I don't want something I have to plough though. But abandoning it would be a waste :)
I realise this isn't actually a big problem, just a chatty thread.

I rarely re read. The ones I do I tend to biy physical copies of.

Life's too short to finish a bad book. Especially since you have an ereader. Can you download for free from the library? (to avoid risking another 99p?

God no. If a book hasn’t got me by about 20 pages in, it’s ditched.
You’ve probably spent more on take-away coffees than e-books so I wouldn’t lose sleep just yet.

I used to feel a real compulsion to finish any book I started - felt that someone had invested so much of themselves into writing it that reading it was the least I could do.

Now I’ve decided life’s too short! Have given up on probably the last 5 I’ve started. I did finish The Whisper Man this morning but am the same as you Stealth - can’t remember who was who and don’t care.

I am in the midst of a second attempt at Wolf Hall. I still don’t see the attraction - it is as dull as dishwater. But I will persevere!

I have just abandoned 'watching you' by Lisa Jewell. I thought short chapters and a big font might make it an easy read but it was just 'meh'. Boring characters to be honest. I gave up before the end of another Lisa Jewell book last year. I guess she isn't the author for me.

I never give up on a book. Even if it’s completely dire. I have to plough through so I can finish and say to myself “I was right, it was complete and utter shite”

Maybe it’s not the right time to read it. Put it to one side and give it another go some time in the future. If you still can’t get into it then, abandon ship.

No, it was called missing.
I'm now reading skin by Liam brown. Presumably no coincidence that it's being recommended at the moment! It seemed very good so far and I've just paid £4.99 for it
