Anyone else's inconsiderate, arsehole neighbours gone to another level of arsehole since the lockdown? Come rant here

Hello,

Honestly, I feel like I'm going mad. I know we all do right now, but bloody hell, it really doesn't make the process any easier living next to selfish twats who think it's perfectly acceptable to have their TV on full until 2am, whilst laughing loudly, banging doors, shouting upstairs/downstairs to each other. They have teenage daughters who appear to be coming and going at will too 🙄 so clearly taking the whole lockdown/pandemic thing very seriously.

I can't tell you how close I came last night to banging on the walls to tell them to STFU! But had to keep reminding myself that we could very well be making the situation worse and I don't want to be getting the police involved with everything going on.

They've always been inconsiderate, but now we just don't get a break from them at all!

Anyone else feel my pain? How do you keep together?!

Thanks.

So last night was the first night our neighbours didn't have their TV blaring through the walls until 2am, so initially when we went to bed at about 11.30, we breathed a sigh of relief...

This time however, we were woken up around 1am with them running up and downstairs like a stampede of f@#*ing elephants, shouting and screaming to one another, laughing (the dad resembles woody the frickin woodpecker!) slamming doors every few seconds. This went on for hours and I'm absolutely exhausted. Again, had to try so hard not to bang on the walls and scream at them to STFU!

They're grown adults FFS!. Late 30's - early 40's I'd say. With kids! They just don't give a shit. End of.

Have you tried talking to them?

They probably have no idea you can hear them if you have never complained. It will just get worse as until you complain they will think there is no issue. Just tell them!!!

I think you have to speak to them really, they may genuinely just think you can’t hear them. Give them the benefit of the doubt for now and see if it improves after a polite conversation.

My neighbour is a nurse. If anyone is going to catch Covid19 it’s her. Selfish bitch keeps approaching the fence when my DS is playing in the garden. We are on lockdown because I have severe immune system problems and she’s putting my family at risk. On Saturday she was speaking to DS through a gap in the fence and I had to run out and drag him indoors.

Ours are ok at the moment but the guy next door regularly sits in his garden playing bongo drums until midnight at the best of times, now he's been home for a week we're sure it's going to start up again soon!

Mine has decided that today is the day to start their extension. The house opposite is nearly finished, so no break from the early morning builders.

@Petiolaris that is mean. She is being friendly and will not pass it to your DC through the fence.
I have young nurses in tears because their families are asking them to leave home for the duration.
Scared of catching covid and rejected by their families at the same time

My upstairs neighbour has, once again, forgotten that the wood floor his landlord put in transmits every. Single. Furniture. Move he does. All times of the day SCREECCHHH as they pull out a chair or move a table. DH has had a polite word twice already, good behaviour only lasts a few months before it starts again.

Honestly, mine are not inconsiderate arseholes at all, and I assume they're just doing whatever they can to keep themselves sane in a small-ish house and garden with several pre-school and primary aged kids. But damn, they're being loud! It's like a screeching herd of hippos in there! I understand the kids, but the parents are joining in! I'm sure it's family fun, but shush... (yes yes, IABU)

Fight fire with fire.

When do they sleep?
Let them have an hour and then turn your TV on loud, slam a door or two, then go quiet for about 10 mins and do it all over again, they will eventually get the message.

It sounds you can't make it any worse than it already is.

Good luck.

I really do think they know, they just don't care.

When they first moved in, we thought 'phew, at least they're better than the previous neighbours!' But then very quickly changed and we thought our luck had clearly run out Hmm If the DCs aren't screaming at each other all night and again, slamming doors, then it's all the other crap from their parents.

The teenagers don't bother me so much, because they're still kids! It's still not on, but it's not as infuriating.

They're not what you'd call a 'dysfunctional family' on the surface. The parents have full time jobs (shift work), when you see them out together, they seem like a nice, calm family.

It's like they all morph into utter crazy arseholes by night.

I don't think it's drink.

We were supposed to be moving (I know..HA!) so we just thought we should suck it up and ignore, as we were due to be moving next month, so thought we could avoid the awkward conversation. Well that's probably not the case anymore.

@BearSoFair, I'm keeping everything crossed for you that the bongos don't start up again! Confused Seriously! What's wrong with people?!

Really? You think breathing on my child though a gap in the fence at a distance of closer than 2m won’t infect him? Somehow I doubt a fence is sufficient protection against coronavirus.

Thank god I found this thread it might help me stay sane and prevent a custodial sentence for me!!!
My downstairs neighbour of 14 years has always been a problem re noise-mostly TV I spoke to him nicely -maybe he didn't realise-twice I offered to buy him wireless headphones( I use them as I have a slight hearing impairment) but he said no.On his day off the TV would go on at 10.00 am and go off at midnight -of course that is magnified by 7 days a week now. I'm here on my own which doesn't help. After several other incidents-told the landlord who just said we should sort it out ourselves! It has now been zero tolerance for a while and I bang on floor as soon as I hear TV but my foot now hurts!!!

Some people just seem to have a "Sod it its my house ,and i will do what I like in it" attitude .Really selfish and totally anti social . If you feel it will help then have a word with them .Sometimes this works ,sadly it sometimes makes it worse .If you have exhausted all options then maybe try ear plugs ? Shouldnt be necessary really ,but if you hope to move at some point anyway ,could be a good temporary measure .Online there are some soundproofing options as well .For walls /floors .again maybe ok for a temporary measure?

OP I have the same issue with my twatty neighbours. I hate them with a passion and have my fingers crossed they catch coronavirus seeing as they don't understand they shouldn't be having mates around regularly.
What annoys me most is the inability to close a door without shaking my entire house. How is that even possible? Cracks have started to appear in the walls because of it too. And don't get me started on the screaming kids - why would anyone let a 3yr old stay up until 3am running around the house screaming?

There's no point banging on your walls as noisy folk like them either don't notice or they'll do it back ten times more to piss you off.
