We went when we had Merlin passes & it was a convenient point to meet friends. We enjoyed ourselves but I'm not sure I'd go if we had to pay. A couple of (tame) rides, a few model buildings, a soft play area, a couple of 10-15 minute films and loads and loads of lego.
The food was expensive and there was a limited choice. Do book your entry time in advance.
The Sea Life Centre is literally across the road.

We enjoyed it far more than we expected too as I'd read poor reviews but we found it a good 1/2 day out. If you get one of the guide lanyard theres tasks for the kids to complete and we enjoyed the small rides and the lego model of Birmingham too.

How old are your children? Good for young children/ preschoolers but I’d want to use bogof vouchers/ tesco points unless you can go out of season with parent and toddler passes (£12ish for both midweek in term time). Expensive parking too.

DS was seven when we went and hes asked to go back soon and hes 8 shortly. As long as he isn't expecting 'legoland' I'm sure he'll enjoy it!
