Where did you get your kitchen bin?

We’ve just moved house and need to invest in a new kitchen bin. Our previous one was from Costco - pros were that it was very large and had a sensor to open the lid. Cons was that there was a ‘lip’ round the top that always caught and ripped the bags on their way out .

Please tell me about your amazing, large, lip-free kitchen bin!! (And where it’s from)

I actually had a really good one from Asda! Never caught bags. It was light weight plastic although made to look like chrome. About £17! Much better than Brabantia one I had before. It's the one that's flat at the back and curved at the front.

The rim bit that held bags in place lifted off when you wanted to empty it so bags just slid out!

I have a Joseph Joseph totem bin which has two compartments - one got rubbish & one for recycling.

There is also a removable foodwaste/compost bin.

I love it!!

Honestly, just get a bog standard 50L swing bin, I've had mine ages. Easy to clean, no nasty food traps, cheap as chips, get a colour to match your decor.

Don't even entertain a pedal bin, roll top or sensor bin, far too fiddly.

All the posh, fancy, poncy ones are either too small, too expensive, hard to clean or you have to pay a fortune for the bin bags.

B&Q. It's fine, just a decent 50L pedal bin. Improved by removing the handle from the inner bucket which tended to catch and rip the bag, and which I didn't use.

Forgot to mention, they are by Addis, you can get them everywhere. The Range, supermarkets, Amazon etc.

I was coming on to recommend the Costco sensor bin! It's the best bin I've ever had
I don't have an issue with the bin bags ripping though so maybe mine is different.

Simple Human. I cannot recommend it highly enough. It is my favourite thing in my kitchen

They are just brilliantly designed and super practical.

Brabantia 60l. We had a smaller pedal bin for years then went to a holiday let which had a MASSIVE brabantia. We loved it, came home and bought one immediately. I think we were talking about how happy it made us for a good fortnight afterwards! It was spendy but I'd replace it in a second if it broke.

I don't have one. I have a teeny tiny bag and pop it into wheelie bin every night.

Ive spent more time than I want to admit researching kitchen bins. In the end we went for a simple human bin, which I'm very happy with. Expensive though.

Made.com it is teal and I love it. Which is OTT for a bun but it’s nice to look at.

We no longer have a kitchen bin. Food waste goes in a caddy with a liner, recycling goes in a small basket and both get emptied into the bins outside daily. Works for us, but we are only a family of 3. Have had a racing green 50l pedal bin in the past from JL or Robert Dyas, so would probably get similar again (or maybe upgrade to a Brabantia?)

We have a Simple Human one. It’s very well made, two compartments, one for normal waste and one for recycling.
The bags probably are a bit more expensive, but they fit perfectly and are very good quality - no more splitting, or tearing when you remove it from the bin.

Brababtia 60L which I have had for at least 12 years. I buy the white handled bin liners from Costco and we have a strict 2 times a week emptying schedule so it should never get over-full.

Pros - the press to open lid can be done with an elbow, or in my case the heel of my foot if my hands are full or are messy.

It holds a lot, it is sturdy and well made.

Cons - I no longer love the colour (black base with stainless steel lid) and it was £120 all those years ago. But the bugger is still going very strong so I don't feel justified in replacing it.

It has a vented bottom, meaning you can't fill it with zoflora and hot water but surely this is a 1st world problem!

My recycling is kept in the utility, not the kitchen, hence no separated bin needed.
