Thanks Dowser.

A PP on the last thread mentioned they'd changed the wording of their website around security and being 'internationally protected people'. I think that will be in response to Scotland Yard rather than Twitter. Scotland Yard said they only had that status when they were senior working Royals and since they've decided they don't want to be senior Royals any more then their protected status would change.

As we (the taxpayer) pay for their protection, if they are 'stepping down' then they should pay for it themselves.

Apparently Chris Ship (ITV royal editor) is tweeting that the Home Office won’t comment on security arrangements ie costs etc which he sarcastically described as “Helpful!” I think that the public are entitled to know if we’re funding private citizens’ security but not (obviously) the actual logistics.

Biscuitsdisappear · 10/01/2020 20:03

I think that you will find that their security is funded through the MET Police.

I think they naively thought they were compromising and being fair by saying they would continue to support the Queen and retain their titles, I honestly think they don't give a shit about being the Duke and Duchess of Sussex

I agree completely.

For all Meghan’s critics, she didn’t want to be in the inner circle of the RF at all. It must be a bitter pill to swallow for the royalists. The institution they revere and the people they want to be subjects of doesn’t want them!

iI’d guess William is spitting that he is the heir and can’t do the same! Only Charles wants the job. The Queen should just give it to the poor man at this stage. He’s been gearing up to it for over seventy years!

500mill in one year??

They could afford to keep he whole lot of them!!

LordOfTheWhys · 10/01/2020 20:25

If they don't want the title, it's odd they trademarked it and have built their entire brand round it. They could easily have used their names or a neutral term.

Oh, excellent Grin

I wanted to derail the new thread reply to Iamthewombat's post near the end of the last re Peter Philips and couldn't.

Quote from last thread:

Which events companies set up by hard working ordinary people missed out on business because the contract went to Peter Philips, grandson of the queen?

And let's not forget the contract wasn't put out to tender and that the event (organised to benefit HM's charities) raised less than half the amount that he trousered.

As you all were{wink]

Wills is quite happy to cream off the perks while apparently bleating piteously about how he doesn't want the job though. He's been working his way round the private villas of Mustique, blagging tickets to top sporting events and picking and choosing his gigs for years.

The DM is suggesting they may not even come back..they’ve taken their dogs.

This story gets more and more bizarre by the hour.

She’s not only chucked the royal family under a bus...She’s also chucked husband Harry.

I would’ve had a bit more respect for her if they'd come home , with the their son. Faced the music, worked it out...had all the talks, confrontations, negotiations, given the family chance to get their feelings and frustrations out...and then after Harry had fulfilled his commitments...gone back to their new home as a family..with a bit more dignity.

It’s like she’s cut and ran and slammed the door on us as she left.

In true mumsnet tradition I really want to ask her

Meghan..did you really mean to be so rude?

'I don’t think [Meghan] is fully aware of how much backlash she will receive [but] I honestly don’t think she cares at the moment,’ adds the friend.

‘What’s one country when she’s got the whole world at her feet? She won’t set foot in the UK again, let alone live there, unless she gets what she feels she’s worth.’

Also from the DM.

Maybe she can 'reconnect' with the rescue dog she abandoned in Canada when she first came to the UK. Bollocks it couldn't travel - Cunard offers a service on the Queen Mary 2, whereby dogs can make the transatlantic crossing and don't have to fly. Don't tell me that they couldn't scrape together the money for that from somewhere. That is when the alarm bells started sounding for me, when she left her dog behind.

It wasn't working so she's cut it all off and moved on to pastures new. Quite healthy really in other circumstances. It was always going to happen. I did think she'd last a bit longer though.

I've just done something I never do, read the comments on their Instagram page. They are brutal. For the first time ever I feel sorry for her.

Doesn't change how I feel about the whole ghastly business but if she reads everything people write those responses will hurt.

At the end of the day, Harry is an adult. He can choose to live his life as he pleases. The Royal Family can decide whether they want to accept his offer to still work as a minor Royal. Charles can decide whether he wants to continue to pay the money or not. The police can decide whether to fund their protection or not.

They want to go NC with the toxic royal family. I don't blame them at all.

The queen has always put the monarchy above family and look what she and the equally toxic Phillip have created. An odious arrogant scrounging son, divorced. Another arrogant entitled cheating son, divorced and married the OW. A divorced daughter.

The only son who seems to be ok is the youngest one and he and his family stay out of the limelight.

I think it's appalling that the queen and Charles are putting monarchy above the well-being and happiness of their grandson/son. It's like putting your job above your children.

Afaic the queen and Prince Philip have created a highly dysfunctional toxic family and now all the dysfunction is being played out in public.

The best thing by far would be for H&M to cut contact and go to Canada and leave the toxic mess behind for good.

Andrew isn't a paedophile. If he slept with Virginia, she was 17.

Wow dimsum, so the negative that you aim at the only female child is that she’s divorced, and that gives her the right to be included in your description of toxic?
Most of the bed-hopping, spouse-abandoning divorced women of MN would fit that category too. If they even bothered to marry in the first place.
