Les Miserables

Did anyone watch the staged concert tonight screened at cinemas? Or indeed was anyone lucky enough to watch it in the flesh?

This was my first encounter of Les Mis I had no idea what it was about had only ever heard Susan Boyle sing 'I dreamed a dream' on BGT but OMG it was amazing!

Such an epic cast tonight too with Michael Ball, Alfie Boe, Matt Lucas. I loved Katy Secombe and Matt together. Hard to imagine anyone else in their place.

My local cinema was sold out with two main screens showing it. Never seen a cinema so busy. I only found out it was showing today and there were only a few single seats left so I did a first and went on my own. Luckily I was sat next to a lady and her (reluctant) husband so I had someone to chat to during the interval.

Seeing this actually live is now going on my bucket list.

Only seen the film version a few years ago..and it was the biggest load of misery since cold mountain.

Never, ever again..in any shape or form..filmed or live show.
Pleased you enjoyed it though.

I went to The Mayflower at Southampton last month to see it. Bloody brilliant!

I went to London to see this a few weeks ago it was AMAZING!!! Look up the touring show (if it still is...) We saw that in May and it was fabulous - I've seen it a few times before but this was my favourite production. And if course you can book tickets for when it reopens in Feb I think it is. X

Saw the staged concert live with my daughter in Oct. Was blown away by Carrie Hope Fletcher (Fantine) and Alfie Boe. Michael Ball's 'Stars' was amazing too.
You should definitely see the stage show - it is fantastic.

Saw it in Birmingham earlier this year - absolutely brilliant, I cried all the way home!

My husband bought me a ticket for this for Sunday, can't wait! I've seen the live version several times and I'm a massive fan. Glad this one is good!

Have to say I wasn't a fan of the film though..

The new production opens at the refurbished Sondheim Theatre in two weeks.

Doubtful I will get to London anytime soon to see it so will put the film version on my Christmas list Smile

I've seen it live years ago and watched the staged concert last night and thought both were amazing.

We've seen it 5 times. I couldn't believe the ticket prices though. Our Odeon was charging £18.95 which I think is ridiculous.

Les Miserables means the Wretched Ones and it isn't all misery! If you liked the staged concert you should definitely see the stage show. Book a ticket and plan a trip.

I went to see it about 25 years ago, in London, and it was absolutely phenomenal. Currently trying to listen to the audiobook and really struggling. The narrator's voice is dull, his characterisations irritating, and nothing ever happens (10 hours in so far...). It truly is miserable, but not in the right way!

@thunderbolt, I tried reading it a while back and certainly didn't make 10 hours in, its not an easy read at all. Although the BBC adaptation last year was very interesting and made some connections that I didn't know about.

Love the stage show, seen it a few times, including once with Gareth Gates, his voice has matured so much since pop idol.

Saw the concert at the cinema last night ( and off to see the touring version in Cardiff on Saturday )
I thought it was superb , Michael Ball had a terrible cold by the sound of it , but he gave everything
The chap who played Enjoras ( and will be Javert in The Sondheim ) Was outstanding
Loved the bit at the end , with the 5 Valjean
I saw it in the theatre many years ago , it was so beautiful
Roll on Saturday
Our cinema had 3 screens showing it

I love Les Mis but for me the dream cast was the 10th anniversary concert at the Royal Albert Hall. Colm, Michael Ball, Lea Salonga, Ruthie ......

My mum had it on video and we watched it endlessly as youngsters. Its still for me the best version

Ooh just checked the touring dates and it's on in Glasgow in June. I'm definitely going to book tickets for that. Thanks to those who mentioned the tour, didn't know about that!

All 3 screens at my local picture house were sold out last night.
Mat Lucas was superb, but Fantine stole the show, her voice is so lovely.

Went to the staged concert last month, and have seen the full play (also with Alfie Boe) too. Fabulous.

Mind you, for the first 10 minutes I wondered what on earth I'd let myself in for as it seemed so dark and downbeat, but it really is a fabulous show.

@Dowser to be fair, the film is shite. I don't know what they were thinking but it's just dire.

The show is great. Not my favourite musical, but definitely one I enjoy. Wasn't able to catch the screened version, but the cast sounds incredible and I can imagine it was great.

Carrie Fletcher is wonderful. I saw her in Heathers last year, and I've been following her career for a long time. Really talented lady.

We saw it last night, our vue had 4 sold out screens

We think they will bring a DVD out of last night

If anyone missed last night at cinema there are encore showings of it on 6 & 7 or 7 & 8 or something like that

We have been to see the show in London loads of times, our DS has now got his gf hooked

Each cast bring a different side to the show hence why we go so often

Yes they are really expensive nowadays so it takes a bit longer to save up, we like the expensive seats in the stalls although at Sondheim we are going up a level so we can see the lighting effects on the stage floor then afterwards we will return to the stalls

@MyNameIsAlexDrake if you loved last night I really recommend you getting the 10th anniversary concert DVD with Philip Quast as Javert (he will always be our favourite Javert) with a very young Michael Ball as Marius. Also booking tickets to see it at the Sondheim (Queens) next year you won't regret it SmileSmileSmile

I bought tickets for the bargain price of £8 - our cinema is half an hour drive and I so nearly didn’t bother going.
I am so glad we did - it was amazing!

Did people clap in your cinemas last night, along with the audience?
