Children's tights

My child is always complaining her tights keep falling down
And forever adjusting herself and pulling them up at the minute

I don't understand why this always happens and what to do to stop her complaining

Does anyone else have this problem?
Is there some magic shop that doesn't do this??

Buy a different size! I know it sounds trite but it works. If they’re falling down it usually means they’re not long enough in the leg.

My Dd is very skinny but a bigger size works better as she’s got long legs.

She won't wear trousers for school and I don't want her to just wear trousers out of school.

She is thin. Just normal thin. But she's not got long legs. I've thought about buying size up but then I think surely they'll fall down too as the waist will be even bigger??

John Lewis tights last and fit the best in my experience. And yes, get a size up! My poor DD struggled for ages while I believed they were falling down because they were too baggy. As a pp said, clearly she needed longer leg length!

Bigger sizes fall down. My GC is very tall and very thin. Tights for her age group are too short in the leg length. Next sizes up fit in legs but fall down. Does anyone know of a particular brand of children's tights that are tight enough to stay up?

Yes that's kind of my thinking. That we need tights that actually grip on the waist.

Morrisons are good for leggings for her (cos her waist is thin) I got tights from there because of this and she says they fall down

I've given up on tights now. My very tall 6 year old is in 8-9 clothes but very skinny so tights whatever size or brand don't fit. I've started putting her in knee socks with same colour cycling shorts under.

I've found M&S tights to stay put and they wash & tumble amazingly well


I remember being at school and wearing a pair of knickers under my tights (obviously) and then another pair on top to hold them up!

I do wonder why they don't put those silicone strips that they have in strapless bras on the waistband of tights.

Well I haven't tried m&s ones before. Don't really shop there. So I guess they're worth a try.
Might have to order online I don't think they had her size when I looked in shop (which is another thing why is 4-5 so hard to find in tights!)

I just don't want to waste money on other sizes if it's not going to fit as I don't have money to waste. And I just can't help thinking if I go size up surely the waist will be too big. (She has trouble fitting in most of her size leggings/trousers as it is)

I second John Lewis. My daughter is thin and they fit her just fine on the waist.

My skinny tall 8yo is wearing Asda 11-12 currently. (Mostly she needs 9-10 or 10-11 on her bottom half) Strangely not baggy around the waist whereas most trousers are.

I never shop there cos there's not one where I live

But I've just looked on the website and they don't do her size! Another shop which skips sizes in tights! So annoying!

Have you tried next ones? They are perfect fit for my tall skinny 5 year old.

Not recently but I have got them in the past for her and after not too long they lost their elastic (I think they might have been ok to start with it was a long time ago) but they didn't last half as long as they should

However next are another place that misses sizes out so we'd have no choice but to go down or up a size. I can't understand why places do this

I had the same issue with my small 5 year old. 3-4 tights were falling down as they were a bit to small, 5-6 fell down as they were too big! It was so hard to find some 4-5 school tights in the colour we needed but I managed to get some eventually in Debenhams and they fit perfectly, no falling down at all and she is happy to wear them all day whereas before she was desperate to get them off as soon as she got home.

Oh it's quite good to hear it's not just me then!
I just find it so strange why you get to this size with tights and they start missing out on sizes at a lot of shops!
I'll have a look at Debenhams as well

If she is wearing black tights get some black knickers and get her to put them on afterwards.
It's what I do sometimes, because until you buy the tights you can't tell if they are right or not and you can't returned them. It will hopefully help her.
Remember tights change after so many washes too.

Yes it's just that the tights she talks about fall down when they're brand new. (In the past she hasn't complained to start with and then it does feel like they've lost their elastic after a bit. After nowhere near long enough but they must have fit to start with cos she didn't complain)

If she's happy in leggings, could she wear them under her skirts/dresses? Then get the same colour of socks?
