Help, baby’s temp

crazymare20 · 12/11/2019 18:56

My ds is 16 months old and has had a raised temp since yesterday tea time. Originally low 38 which was being stabilised with calpol but had to give him ibruprofen in the night as calpol wasn’t doing anything. He’s been having ibruprofen through the day but is wearing off after around 5 hours and his temp is getting higher everytime it wears off. I have just given him another dose and taken temp and it’s 39.8. Hes been soiling his nappy all day and isn’t eating but is drinking little bits. He’s moaning and crying a lot. Do you think I should take him to hospital or am I over reacting. He’s slavering a lot and has a runny nose.

Ring 111. Bet will either say hospital or maybe able to get you and out of hours doctors appointment.

The ‘bet’ should have been ‘they’.

Are you aware you can only give 3 doses of ibuprofen in 24 hrs?

My nephew (3.5yo) ended up in hospital recently due to what sounds like a similar bug. I wouldn't bother with 111 (told my sister to take DN to the pharmacist who told her to take him straight to A&E because there was nothing he could do).

I'd head to A&E. Kids are usually seen pretty quickly and they'd rather see you than have the child come in as an emergency..

Take him to A&E.

My fiancé is medical and has said you need to ring 111.

Use calpol instead of ibuprofen.

Aim to cool the room and not the child - open windows etc.

Sorry forgot to add the above in my previous post.
