So glad DD listened to me tonight!

DD (24) text me to say she'd fallen over and sent me a picture of a sore looking bruised wrist. Now, usually I would say something along the lines of ice it, take some ibuprofen and keep an eye on it for 24 hours. This time though, fresh from watching an episode of 24hrs in A&E, something told me, I should actually see it.

After some resistance from her I persuaded her that it ought to be looked at tonight. The girl on the TV programme had fractured her scaphoid bone, which can be quite dangerous it seems, if left untreated.

4 hours later and an increasingly grumpy DD later and the doctor confirmed it was just that! He even said, your mum has possibly saved your wrist. Tiny bit of a smug mummy moment and DD telling the doctor she would never, ever hear the end of it now!

Bless her. Back for plaster tomorrow, when the adrenaline has worn off and she'll be proper grumpy.

I call that a God shot (even though I'm atheist)

How lucky! There's another thread in active you should join that's callled coincidental things....

I just read the coincidences one. And strangely enough again, the one thing she couldn't do for the doctor, was to flex her thumb into a thumbs up position!Grin

I'm the first aider at school, so wrist injuries are common place. I listened to the one on TV particularly, because so often we say, 'can you move it?' and assume that if you can it's fine. If I can have a couple more pointers of what to look for, it helps me.

Although no one enjoys knowing that a student has broken something, there's a certain amount of pleasure in making the right call for a parent to take them to A&E. I've called it right twice at school since September and now my own DD!

Well done!! Can I just mention that you shouldn't give ibuprofen for a sprain/bruise/muscle injury for 48 hours, just paracetamol, as it slows down healing.

Gosh yes, you're right. That's all she had to hand anyway and she'd already taken paracetamol two hours before that for a headache anyway.

She's sore today, but she'd had to go to work for a couple of hours before we go back, as she was doing interviews this morning.

I remember DS, who had a tendency for the dramatic, calling me yelling he needed an ambulance. Eventually I got out of him that he had dislocated his thumb.
"No, you haven't" says I, knowing what he's like. "Come home and we'll get some ice on it".
Ten minutes later a very grumpy 15 year old walks through the door with his thumb pointing backwards.

He still teases me to this day over it.

Hope she's feeling better as the day wears on OP.

Mothers know best.
If that is true (whispers: it's not a given), what is this board for?

Pierrettelasanguinaire well it was true in this case.

Are you a father then?

Well, it's not the first time mother has been right this year!

She did some pretty big career changes, against my better judgement/advice. 3 months later, when she was very, very down about it, she chose to listen to me and all is now well again. She even text me and said, 'guess you were right!' I resisted the opportunity to say, 'told you so' at that point and waited until I knew she was truly happy again.

Then I told her I'd taken a screen shot of the text and had it made into wallpaper for her bedroom! Grin
