Car insurance question!

My son is taking his driving test as we speak. If he passes (!), he's only around for about six weeks at home before he goes to work in France for six months.
Do you think it's best (and cheaper) to insure him on our insurance for our car, or would it be best to get separate insurance for the few weeks he's at home?
He won't be driving a huge amount as it's our only car and I'm first in the pecking order, then DH then him!!

It's fine to add him as an additional driver in these circumstances. It's only frowned upon if he would actually be the main driver, which it definitely sounds like he isn't.

Also, if you did set up a policy just for him, you would face a high cancellation fee for cancelling that time into the annual contract, and he'd be unlikely to get any no-claims discount earning either.
