How has your pet brought joy to your life?

Inspired by a current miserable thread I thought I'd start one about how our pets bring us joy. Yes, I know it's probably been done to death but surely everyone loves a pet thread?

We got our lovely dog when going through infertility problems. We decided we wanted a break from the constant let downs and negativity and to focus on something positive

He is now 4 years old and I honestly don't know where we'd be without him. In that time which would have otherwise been filled with misery, he forced us out of bed, played with us, gave us big smiles and licks and is the cuddliest bear going.

My favourite joyous moment was also my darkest. We had just got news of no heartbeat after being elated and finally getting our first bfp. I sat on the toilet and sobbed my heart out. DDog loves socks. I mean...they are his favourite things ever. After a few minutes of self indulgent crying I looked up to find four socks at my feet and DDog sitting looking at me with the most concerned expression ever. He bought me his favourite things to cheer me up. He then launched himself at me (he's a lab), one paw on each shoulder and proceeded to lick my face and every tear away until I was laughing uncontrollably.

We are now happily 7 months pregnant but even now, when I sit on the toilet, I sometimes look up to find a sock, and he still occasionally launches at me while I'm sat there, just to check no more tears need licking away

Hit me with your joyous stories!!

MyFart - your story brought tears to my eyes. Wishing you very good luck.

My ddog just brings cuddles, kisses and love every day. He was a rescue dog and was abused, so winning his love and trust was hard.

Dogs are little bundles of love wrapped up in ears and paws.

They give me a reason to get up in the morning when I am depressed.

My cats seem to know when I am upset and will come and give me head-bumps.

@MrsCasares Our next dog will definitely be a rescue. DDog was our first and we didn't feel confident enough to go with a rescue but next time, for sure! Good on you for doing it-must be so rewarding!

@ScreamingValenta I had cats growing up and my favourite thing ever was head bumps...such a sign of love 💓

He’s given me something to love & care for.

The only warm bundle on my lap will only be pets unfortunately.

My DD's hamster has brought her joy, and that brings me joy.
He is pretty cute.

After a shitty day at work, my little cat bounds up to me, usually with a toy in his mouth and flings himself at my feet for a fuss and some play. He instantly improves my mood. I couldn't imagine being without animals in my life.

I get a weird sort of joy/satisfaction from cleaning the fish tank. After I’ve cleaned it it cheers me up for days.

Oh OP, that choked me up ♥️

I adore my pets (x2 cats) and can't imagine being without them, they bring so much to our lives.

Our dog is just completely in the moment.
She notices things I wouldnt usually register.
Being around her is a totally different way of being.

Love this.

I absolutely love and adore my cat. He recognises the sound of my bike bell and if I ring it on my street he comes bounding up to meet me.

A head butt from him cheers up any shit day. If I call him from upstairs I hear him come thundering up the stairs meowing. He is an absolute chunky grumpy demanding joy, and I love him to death.

She makes me happy every day. I got her at a very difficult time of my life and she helped me through it. She adores me unconditionally and is so so funny. Here she is making puppy dog eyes at me Grin

My little cat ❤️ we got her as a rescue kitten almost 2 years ago.

She lays across me and suckles on the sleeve of my dressing gown on an evening.
She always knows when I'm struggling with my MH and literally will not leave my side. If I'm having an anxiety attack she jumps onto my knee.
She gives lots of head bumps and particularly likes to lick your nose.
She grooms the DCs heads 😂

We almost lost her earlier this year after she was poisoned. Worst 2 weeks of my life as she was in hospital. We are so lucky to still have her with us.

This little bundle is joining our house next week..
Eldest son has SEN & youngest loves animals so I’m hoping this is a positive contribution to our family.

I’m the proud owner of an American bulldog/boxer rescue dog. I’ve had him 2 weeks and he’s 9 years old.. He was rescued in a pretty bad state and we were told he had issues but because he needed urgent foster care (he wasn’t happy in kennels) we took him on. So glad we did. He’s a lovely boy. Sweet natured, beautiful manners and utterly gorgeous. I’m in love already.

So pleased for you OP.

I took on my oldest dog at a really shit time in my life. I had grown up with domestic violence and alcoholic parents, constant drama and moved out at 16. I ended up taking on dog who had also been badly abused as an 11 month old puppy while house hopping between various different places. He has lived everywhere with me, kept me safe, always been a shoulder to cry on and was a reason to try and save up for a house of my own so I would never have to give him up.
He was there when I moved in with DH, through going through to university and also finding a job that I was good at. He comes to work, I’ve taken him to schools to teach children, he has raised hundreds of foster kittens and puppies as well as teaching me more about dog behaviour and body language than I ever knew possible.

Then we had DS and he became DSs dog, he happily plays with DS and lies at his feet night or day just as he did for me.

I adore him, he’s an old man now but still pottering around being harassed by two younger dogs and DS but teaching them the ropes but I honestly think he turned my life around Smile

That's such a lovely story, OP. I have tears in my eyes!

Pets are amazing. I wake up every morning to find my ginger tomcat curled up by my feet at the end of the bed. He's been through a lot (found in a dust-bin, moved across the world with me) but he has the sweetest nature.

My dog is soooo loving and I love the welcome I get once home from work. He pushes past the kids to get to me.
Doubt anyone else will ever love me in this way. I love to smell his fur and cuddle him on the sofa. I've even cried on him before when I've had a bad day

@MondeoFan oh yes- my dogs whole body and bum waggles when we get home.

Even leaving the house for 10 minutes seems like a lifetime to him when we return! Waggle bums, flappy ears and licks a-plenty!

That’s so sweet op ❤️

My pup brings me joy by just being. DH was very against having one but all the “ fates “ colluded this year and we have a nearly 12 week puppy. The fact that he’s gone from “ well I haven’t said no have I “ to getting up at 5am to take pup out and cuddle him till he settles makes me love husband all the more too. Here they are. He clearly hates showing that lovely pup off in the name of “ socialisation “
