I need to get my act together - anyone else?!

I really need to get my act together - my house is a mess and needs a bloody good clean, I don't look after myself properly so always feel scruffy, I'm overweight since having 2 DC and I permanently feel stressed and like I have no control over anything.

So I am going to take back control. I would like to be an oasis of calm and serenity, preferably 2.5 stone lighter, obviously much slimmer, with decent hair, nails and eyebrows, a lovely clean house and the ability to turn down a chocolate bar once in a while. I also want to be able to wear a bikini on holiday next year without feeling quite so wobbly. It starts today!

Anyone else up for it? Grin

OMG me!! I could have written your post. I am going to work on changing one thing at a time. Sorting my budget/ money / bills out today so I will hopefully feel more in control of my life .

Snap apart from no kids. Just an elderly mother to care for, 2 dogs and 3 cats!

Me to. Since DD (1) came along I'm a stone heavier, never on top of the housework no matter how hard I try and my nails look like I've tried to claw my way out of a coffin

You have inspired me. I can no longer call it baby weight when baby is getting adult teeth. I am with you, OP.

You know when the time is right. The only thing I would say is don't try to do too much too soon and feel you aren't making progress.

I do get semi-permanent eyebrow tattoos once a year which has changed everything. I wake up and look a lot more groomed.

I'd love to join in but not sure I'd maintain it. In January I was so disgusted with myself I went in a really strict diet as I had a fancy holiday coming up plus a good friend's wedding. It's almost the end of the school holidays, the house is such a mess, the weight is all back on and I've just eaten a scone which was disgusting and I've wasted more calories 😠 it would have helped of I actually enjoyed it! And to make matters worse, I had one last night and found it equally gross. Why I thought it would taste any better this morning is anyone's guess!!

As an aside, I'd love to start a thread 'it's the school holidays with x kids, what's on your kitchen floor?' I need people to post to make me feel better! 🤣🤣🤣

But I'll follow at a distance and hopefully not lose sight of you all!!

🙋‍♀️ count me in!
My house needs a big declutter and I’m planning to do this next week when my OH and dd are away camping. I’ve got drawers full of rammel that I need to filter and chuck.
Following on from another thread, I’m looking into changing my eating habits as a long term plan for weight loss. I have planned to do this over the next year and I’m researching the best way for me to do this.
My aim to be at a better weight (&shape) by next summer so I can buy nicer clothes for our holiday abroad next year. I have had success in the past with joining WW but I really want to do this myself as I know what I should be eating - I just need to do it!
Like you OP, I need to smarten myself up. I’ve been working on my nails but now need to sort out my candy floss hair and errant eyebrows.
There, I’ve written it down so I’m holding myself accountable!
Do you have a grand plan of how you’re going to tackle this Millie?

I'm glad I'm not the only one then Grin

@mrselizabethdarcy - I agree maybe one thing at a time is a good place to start! We are ok budget wise as DH does that, although we've overspent this summer but it's manageable at the moment.

@PotterHead1985 - elderly parents are probably more stressful that kids!

@blackcat86 - 2.5 stone heavier here. DS2 is 3 next month and I've made no real attempt to lose the weight I've put on. I'm fed up of feeling big!

@BEDinhalfanhour and @thethoughtfox -  welcome!

I'm going to try to do one thing for myself each day, so tonight I'm going to paint my toenails when DC are in bed. I did get my eyebrows waxed earlier this week as well.

I'm attempting to potty train DS2 this weekend. Fingers crossed. It's not going well so far but we will see.

I'm in!
I've already started to make changes, 1st August saw the start of my budgeting like a crazy woman - I have to say it's slightly addictive Grin

I've also started to ensure I drink one bottle of water a day (I'm normally shocking) and ensure I have one Actimel to try and keep by IBS under control.

Once I've got one habit bedded in then I start on another Smile

What's "rammel"? I think I must have some too.

Count me in too! My house is not too bad but I really don't take care of myself.

MillieMoodle · 24/08/2019 11:47

@Namechange3007 - lack of time is a major thing for me too. But I do waste time by procrastinating.

@wowfudge - wise words! I'm planning to tackle little bits at a time so hopefully won't be too overwhelming.

@Applesandrhurbarb - my main motivation is that we have booked a holiday abroad next July with friends. I really want to be in better shape so I can buy some new clothes, preferable a couple of sizes smaller than I need now! Hope you can join us!

@Joyfulincolour - you have pretty much just described my life! I don't have a set in stone plan, but at the moment I'm planning to:

  • do least one thing for myself each day such as painting my nails or getting eyebrows done;
  • try to remember to use bio-oil twice a day in the hope my stretch marks might fade a bit;
  • try and do the 30 minute shred 3 times a week;
  • get out for a walk every day;
  • spend at least 20 minutes a day tidying/clearing clutter/cleaning;
  • stop procrastinating;
  • stop eating crap;
  • drink more water

So far today I've stripped DS2's bed and washed the sheets and taken my old, chipped nail varnish off my toes ready to re-paint tonight. I've also collected up the empty bottles that had accumulated in the bathroom and shower room. Baby steps Grin

Count me in.

I've been trying to lose weight on the 5:2 but my god it's slow progress. Think I might have to cut down on the carbs a bit more.

After repeated urine infections I've started taking a probiotic and supplement which has made a massive difference and I'm going to start cooking from scratch again.

And I'm taking control of my finances. I totted up that I spend an eye watering amount on random purchases each month and it's ridiculous. I earn a decent amount but my spending is out of control. One change I did make in January was subscribing to Chip from a mumsnet recommendation. It takes small amounts from your account each month so you save without knowing it. It's brilliant.

I really need to do this - sadly I have a lot more weight to lose than you OP (and I don't even have children). Are you following a particular diet or fitness plan?

I have a holiday booked for May next year and I am desperate to look and feel better by then!

I’m in!
I need to lose at least 5 stone of baby weight (‘baby’ being 12now!)
Quit smoking
My hair and nails are a mess
I need to redecorate my bedroom (it’s still the same as we moved in-almost three years ago)
I need to repaint the hall-I wanted sage green-we got snot green (anyone knows of a true sage green paint I’ll be your friend forever)
The house is tidy-it just needs a deep clean (the dust is an inch thick)
And I need to get rid of all the books-I-bought-and-never-read

@TreacherousPissFlap I've recently stopped having actimel after years and it's made a (not good) difference to my IBS so need to get some more. I like the idea of getting one habit started and settled at a time.

@beckyb123 Think it's meant to say "rammed".

@Flapdoodles I definitely could do with some tips for getting my house into a decent state.

@Sallycinnamum and @Leona11 - welcome. I also allow my job to take over my life and I hate doing that, so I'm trying to take a step back and learn to switch off.

@Gemi33 - I'm not following a particular diet or exercise plan, I don't think I'd have the sticking power for that. My general plan is to eat less and move more. I am cutting out most of the crap I eat but allowing myself one treat a day, as cutting it all out would just make me miserable I think. Planning to get out for a walk every day and do my 30 day shred DVD three times a week. I have had a somewhat sedentary lifestyle for the last few years so I'm hoping moving more will make a difference. Holidays seem to be a big motivator!

I'm in too please, although this week will mostly be planning for when the DC go back to school and I can finally get moving on things. I was so motivated in July - had lost half a stone, was exercising regularly, house was reasonably tidy - but the school holidays have lasted forever and I have lost my mojo Sad

Currently looking at a big mound of veg which I bought in a fit of enthusiasm, and realising that I have no energy/ motivation to do anything with it. However living off maltesers forever probably won't help me lose weight...

I actually bought this last week
www.cgdlondon.com/collections/planners/products/pink-daily-planner
It’s a bit pricey and you could do the same with a notebook. But I think (hope!) it will inspire me to tick off all the boxes. I need to get into a better routine and up my exercise drastically.

I love this thread ! I want to do the same thing - get my house in order - put a proper system in place for housework/cooking/paperwork etc. I need to lose about 2 stones - and really want to do it through exercise and a heaktbier diet. This year all my children are at school full time which leaves me with time to actually do things properly!! I have no excuse anymore ! I also want to better myself by having a think about working again (I back have not worked for over 10 years due to having children and also mental health issues). I'm determined to better myself. I hope that with all you lovely ladies support and ideas I will be able to head in the right direction.

Count me in too. I need to lose three stone, sort out my fluffy hair, drink more water, eat more nutritionally, reintroduce exercise into my day, declutter my house and start to budget better. Even writing it all down feels like a step forward.

@Asta19 just bought the same journal and very excited for it to arrive! Step one of my plan - stop buying notebooks Grin Hmm
