Only got here yesterday. In a sort of complex in Menorca with my dc and some other family. It advertised as having air con. The room was stifling. After hours of complaining they finally moved me and dc rooms about 1030 last night. It’s marginally better but boiling. We now back onto all the bars so it’s bloody loud. I nod off Eventually but woke sweaty and an annoying bird has been outside my window ALL night. Iv had 2 hours sleep and want to go home. I have 3 more nights but can’t cope with this. I get migraines and lack of sleep is a trigger. It’s in the 30’s and boiling. Kids won’t forgive me if we went home and my parents wouldn’t go home either. I don’t know what to do. I’m going to complain again but this is ridiculous. This is our second room....... in so tired I was actually crying at 3am!

Get ear plugs?

That’s awful when that happens.

Can you ask the hotel for a fan or nip out and buy one?
If the bars are noisy it won’t help opening a window but you can drink lots of cold water before bed. Strip the bed down to just a sheet. Sleep in the thinnest T-shirt you have. Cotton or linen.
Don’t drink any alcohol as it makes you hotter.
Leave the kids with your mum, and get some sleep during the day.

It’s very remote, has one shop, I’ll look for ear plugs but who knows if they’ll have any. Ear plugs don’t solve the heat ....

Send the DC out with their grandparents and nap

Hi, what about getting some earplugs from reception? If you have a phone in your room, call down and ask them to send some up.
Re the room, I would ask to speak to the manager tomorrow or holiday rep if you have one.

They wouldn’t let me speak to a manager yesterday. They kept saying they would send up an engineer and never did and o had to keep tracking back to reception (big complex). My parents room was hot as well. It doesn’t look like air con, it’s basically a heating system, with a cool setting that lets out minor colder air.

Can’t send dc out with parents as they have special needs and wouldn’t go out without me anyway. I can never nap in the day which is really annoying. In the week I was up after about 3 hours sleep due to dc being up and I had horrific migraine and couldn’t sleep in the day at all.

Reception also said they had no fans....

The next few days are forecast to be marginally cooler and your body may adjust as well.

I hope you get some good time on the beach and some cocktails and some sleep!

I really feel for you, it sounds dreadful. Could you try sleeping under a damp sheet? I wish I had more advice.

Can you contact the travel agent? They may be able to move you to another hotel or help in some way. Try tweeting them maybe. They have falsely sold an air con holiday to you. As for being denied access to the manager, that is outrageous.

I remember Benidorm in September. Absolutely boiling. I wetted a towel, wrung it out and laid it on me
It worked
Noise is another thing altogether.
I use earplugs all the time anyway

Contact rep or travel rep to get air con sorted.
I never travel without earplugs- an absolute godsend.
Drink alcohol before bedtime if all else fails.

I second what a PP said about the cold, wet towel - small one on the head and a larger one on your body. A wet shirt works in a pinch too.

You really should contact your rep if you have one. If not, maybe tweet the resort to shame them?

I stayed in an air BnB last year in France in a hill top village. There were three separate church bells that rang every hour on the hour all night.

After two nights of this I sacked it off, bought a tent and got the train elsewhere as I couldn't afford to book anything else.

Lack of sleep just ruins a holiday.

Does seem abit odd to go to Spain in the summer and complain about the heat though. Like complaining it’s snowy in Greenland or too many trees in the Black Forest

Google diy earplugs op.

Ah having no proper air con in the room is awful, and lack of sleep is the pits. I have no suggestions unfortunately but I hope you get through today and the DC can enjoy themselves at the pool etc. and hopefully you'll get a better sleep tonight.

A colleague who had travelled a lot told me about sleeping in a wet towel. Sounds grim but it cools you down and is comforting. Soak a towel, wring it out, place it on the bed, sleep on it.

I’m not complaining g of outside heat, I’m complaining of the room heat when Iv paid for air con. It’s alwaya a must for me when I go abroad. Round 2 at reception when Iv finished my coffee.

Buck the hell up
Seriously
It’s a short holiday and you’ll ruin it for your children

I’m a single parent of 6 and 8 year old. I’ve been there - hot, exhausted, no one to off load to.

But I often find I have to fake it to make it, for the children’s sake, and before I know it - I’m often out of the fug and enjoying myself

I’ve just seen you have another family with you and your parents. I thought you were a single parent

Out there alone
So could you ask your parents to have the children today whilst you have an hour or doze

I find it takes me a night to adjust to a new room/ bed/ strange surroundings, and I sleep much better subsequent nights when I feel more settled.
Ask other guests about their air con/ fans etc- and the wet towel is a fab emergency solution. Get through today- tonight should be much better.
Yes to contacting travel firm- if it was advertised as air conditioned they are not fulfilling their contract.
