Bumped head... when to worry?

So I stupidly bumped my head last night. I was picking something up from the floor and misjudged how close I was to a metal fireplace as I stood up. Gave the top of my head a real bash.

I put ice on it for a while at the time and took paracetamol. Had a dreadful headache all last night, paracetamol didn't seem to touch it.

Today I feel like I have a hangover. Hideous headache, nausea but not vomiting. I've googled a bit and it seems that these symptoms aren't hugely serious.

The only thing that is worrying me now is I keep getting a tingling.... almost like pins and needles...in the top of my head. It only lasts seconds.

Any experts around? Obviously I don't want to take any chances, but I really, really don't want to go to A and E on a Friday night.

The NHS advises A&E if symptoms include a headache that doesn’t go away with painkillers.

www.nhs.uk/conditions/minor-head-injury/

Personally I’d seek further treatment.

Thanks for the reply. I might need to see someone. Hoping it can wait until tomorrow.

I think at the very least call 111 and see what they advise.

I think 111 will suggest A and E. Which I'd rather avoid if possible.
I was hoping someone on here might have a pit of expert knowledge. I feel like A and E might be a bit of an overreaction.

What's the point of posting if you don't want to go to A&E? What do you want people to say if you won't seek help

I got concussion once that presented like this. I sat up in an unfamiliar bed and whacked my head on a poorly placed shelf. We were away from home but aside from what you describe I was also hard to keep awake- very drowsy. I did go to A and E who checked me over and gave me stronger painkillers. You should probably at the very least go to an out of hours.

A different injury, but I got dumped by my horse and broke my back in two places but because I would still walk, or more of a waddle, I didn't go to A&E.

Roll on 12 months when I woke up paralysed from the waist down and now full of metal made me wish I had made that trip to A&E 12 months earlier!

Give 101 a call at least

Thanks heycarrie. That's what I'm after, someone with experience! Or perhaps a passing nurse/doctor. I am very tired, but I hadn't really linked it with this. Just been a long week!

Not sure why people need to be stroppy. I'm just asking for a bit of friendly advice. If you don't have any, feel free to scroll past. No need to come on and berate me!

Do you have the option of a walk in centre?

I knocked myself out in the back garden. Felt OKish at the time apart from sore head obviously. Woke up next morning with bone crushing headache and was violently sick. Saw GP who blue lit me to A & E. Was under the head injury team at hospital for a good 18 months....

Don't mess with possible concussion. The neurologist likened a head injury to a blancmange being shaken in a biscuit tin, it doesn't take much to damage the delicate brain tissue........... phone 111. And I hope you're better soon.

@Flyingpie

If I had gone to a&e instead of putting on a brave face, I would probably be physically more able than I am now.

For peace of mind I would have to call 101
