What would you do if you inherited 450K?

Just that really. Buy a new house? Spend it? Save it?

I'd pay off my mortgage and buy a larger house with the equity from my existing home and some of the 450K. I'd then invest the rest using a wealth management company I think

You?

Pay off mortgage, buy two new cars, and go on a nice holiday

Buy a field and build a small home right in the middle, nothing big or grand, something like Frodos house in LOTR would do.

I'd sell my flat and buy a house (nothing super flashy though). Just nice.

I'd also buy myself a holiday flat.

I'd pay off my mum's mortgage.

I'd make sure I had savings and then send the rest to charity.

I’d buy a local new build 5 bedroom house so my children wouldn’t need to share and i’d have room for my mum when the time comes

Pay the rest of our mortgage off and put the rest away to gain interest ready for retirement.

Pay off my mortgage, put 100k in trust for my child, buy a bigger house (but stay mortgage free - my dream!!)

Pay off the mortgage and debts, get the jobs on the house done and invest the rest for retirement, might book a little holiday too.

Do up this house, sell it and buy another one. Not necessarily a huge one just one extra bedroom. And buy a reliable car. Doesn't need to be new. Just reliable.

Then we'd be able to consider options for our future. Savings for the Kids. And us.

Move house and go on holiday. I'd rent this house out.

That would get a mansion round here.

I might spend approx half of it on a flat in Spain, south of France or Portugal in a year or two's time. I'd put the rest aside for retirement.

Fortunate have paid off our mortgage.

Buy suitable house or large flat for DC1 when they go to Uni. Invest rest to be able to do similar for DC2.

Pay off the mortgage, nice holiday. Talk to a financial advisor. Invest / save the rest towards uni fees etc. - Maybe move it from Stirling to another currency ahead of Brexit.

Pay off the mortgage and invest for DC's university fees.

But a house without a mortgage ((am currently house hunting in London), book a fab holiday and save what's left.

Cookit · 17/02/2019 20:52

It would make a pretty substantial dent in the mortgage, that would be nice.

@BikeRunSki alas doesn't buy a mansion round here. Wish it did!

I'd sell my nice 3 bed and buy a detached new build 4 bed but they're 500k. Which is ludicrous really. We are fortunate enough to have a fair bit of equity in our home though

Mortgage, help a specific family member, retirement pot.

I would buy a modest apartment, that’s all 450K will get you where I live!

Pay off balance on mortgage. Pay school fees upfront. That would probably account for most of it. Anything left over into pension.

That would give us enough spare each month for an amazing lifestyle!

Buy a modest house outright, go on a holiday we couldn't usually afford, buy a few investment type items for my wardrobe, and then the rest would go into retirement savings.

I'd buy a small house to rent out.
A house worth £450k can bring in a safe £10k per year after expenses and taxes. A far higher return than any other investment.
