Did anyone else's mum give them a food nobody you speak to has heard of?

Although with mumsnet I bet others have had 'it:
In my case it's a' treat' of Cabbage Water
Basically when she cooked (boiled) cabbage (which was with a chopped onion, pepper and nutmeg) I could have a cup of the water after (veg stock I suppose)
I did see it as a treat and am drinking some now, remembering her fondly.

But there was no fancy nutmeg or anything for us.

She'd boil up the bacon and cabbage, and we'd get the water in a mag at the end. Salty .

In the poor times it was water from cabbage only, and a plate of spuds and butter.

Yes, my dm made this oatmeal, apple, plain yogurt, honey and sultana thing which she gave us for breakfast. We called it slop'. I promise it's really delicious!

One of my best memories of my Grandad is sitting on the kitchen worktop while he made me cabbage water. I used to absolutely love it and ask for it all the time.

I use it to make gravy now if I’m using bisto

Condensed mushroom soup and pasta - still eat it now as a comfort food 😂 oh and Ribena made with milk 🤢

Did anyone else get "soup meat"? Basically the leftover meat from a joint that had been used for making stock/soup, all tender and thready, mixed with mayonaise and pickled onions?

My mum used to give us this hot banana flavoured dessert with crushed biscuits on the top. Can't find it anywhere and I used to love it.

When I was a child, my mum used to make the dish we all dreaded - it was sort of browned mince with a poached egg on top. I don't know if it had an actual name, or if it was something she thought up herself, but it was truly awful 😷

I loved soup meat sometimes you would get it for your dinner now ham hock is seen as a bit fancy it is basically soup meat

"Harvey Wallbanger" - it was basically a Popeye egg, but with other random stuff added.

Also Spaghetti Ring - leftover spaghetti plonked in a bundt tin, scattered with other leftovers, pour on beaten eggs, add cheese, and cook until congealed. Mmmmmm.

We had caveman crunch. It was actually a recipe from a set of recipe cards my mum got free from somewhere. It was mince browned with onions, ketchup and sultanas with crushed up cornflakes on top. It was delicious but no one else has ever heard of it.

Before we became vegetarians my mum would sometimes grill steak and then mop up the fat that dripped through with bread - I guess that's dripping? We put it down to her rationing/east end childhood but it was absolutely delicious!

I secretly sometimes eat the fat left over from a roast..

My mother used to make the most vile dish. It was rice cooked in beer, to which she added slices of tinned spam and would serve with a topping of crushed crisps.
