If so what should I put in? Obviously it can't be too big. I don't want the teacher to think I'm taking the piss. Grin

I would have thought so. Definitely worth asking. I would not have a problem with this.

Aww thanks you lot. I know she'll be a bit teary not being with us so thought it would be a nice thing to do. They aren't allowed to make phone calls but I'm hoping that in the circumstances they will allow her one. So far I've got her a personalised cotton shopper bag, a small teddy, personalised bar of galaxy, a pack of photo booth props(moustaches glasses etc that say 13 birthday on some) and a disposable camera. I thought her friends and her could have some fun and the camera makes up for them not having their phones. Is that enough? The trip is her birthday present so she isn't expecting anything else. I've spent 32 quid and feel stingy.

Ime OP, birthday kids on school camp get very special treatment and are spoiled. She will have a great day!

They will definitely allow a phone call.

Maybe send some buns/cake/treats that she can share out too?

I’ve taken kids on school trips on their birthday and have allowed a phone call home, and would more than happily give a present. I second the idea of sending a cake too.

Could you give the teacher some multipacks of sweets/chocolates for her to share with the gang on the special day? Reckon you could do it for a tenner depending on numbers. Obviously not a good idea if any allergies prevent this so check first...
Maybe stick some balloons in with the stuff and a badge.
If it’s her present and she is aware of that, she’ll not be expecting anything so a little surprise treat from home will be lovey no matter what.
Where’s she going?

Where are they staying? Is it catered. If so, could you ask the cook there to bake a cake for her?

It's an outwards bounds trip to France in Feb. They go on the Monday and Return Friday. She loves Tunnocks teacakes so have ordered some in bulk from Amazon. I'm going to contact her teacher via email (If I can find her details) and ask her before the parent meeting. It's reassuring to know she'll be allowed a call.

Op - sorry to be a killjoy but you might want to check with the staff before you put the camera in - even if the film has to be processed the 'old fashioned way' there might be legitimate safeguarding reasons why photos should not be taken while the DCs are in the schools care.

In theory though - lovely idea, I'm sure she'll have a great time.

When we have kids on our camp with a birthday, the kitchen always make a cake and we bring it out during a mealtime and everyone sings. We have a quick sweep of DOBs on the booking forms to make sure we know of anyone beforehand.

We would definitely give out a small goodie bag and often have been given presents to give to them too. It would be helpful to treat it like a whole class or find out if she's in a small dorm, so she has enough supplies to share.

Just check school policy on cameras and what happens with any photos afterwards. You're not allowed to put photos containing other children on any social media at DD's school.

I carried surprise presents up s mountain for a student once. Parents were very nervous of asking!

That's the thing Mississippi but I have tried to be considerate in only getting light items and stuff she can share. They were told they could bring disposable cameras.

I turned 13 during a residential trip. The teacher in charge went to the local town and bought me a cake. I hope your daughter has a great time!

Just don't send pizza for 20, flowers and a balloon.

Most teachers will be fine, I would put them in a bag rather than wrapped so the teacher can check there isn't something ilicit.

I would have thought that the teacher would be ok with it as long as it was small enough, light enough and didn't break any rules (remembering that some of the rules will be set by the place that they are staying in).
