Quick Poll re Toddler Sleep

I'm not a journo, just trying to make a point.

DS is 2.5. He is bf to sleep (I've recently dropped all night feeds but hopefully I'll be able to drop this one in the next month or so and have stopped completely), and then I/we go to to him between 1-4 times through the night for a hug/reassurance whatever.

How often do/did you go in to your toddler around this age? What did you to when you went to them? When did you stop going to them?

I think it's still reasonable that we're having to go see him, H does not.

Sorry I wasn't finished:

What time do they get up for the day?

Thank you

At 2.5 DD would be put down around 7pm and we would not hear from her again until 6am.

My toddler is 2 and a bit. I've just stopped bf all night and to sleep with her. She still wakes 2 or 3 times for reassurance. And generally wakes for the day between 6.30 and 7.15

Toddler aged 2.5 years. Generally sleeps through from 8pm to 6.30am. Sometimes wakes up earlier but we leave her in her room to play with her toys.

My ds is 2 in April. I still have to reassure him a few times and he mostly wakes for the day between 5 and 6.
This is not reasonable at all I'm tired he's tired but I can't do any form of sleep training as dp won't let me and I have 3 other children that he'd wake up.
By 2.5 even my worst sleeper was only waking for reassurance if they were poorly.

My toddler is 18 months, it's been twice a night needing reassurance (for about an hour at least each time) and is up for the day by 5am. But, whispers , he slept through till 6.45am today...

My 2.5 year old goes to bed at 7 and gets up at 6.30 on nursery days and 7.30 on days off. She wakes up maybe 1 night in 10 but once in with us settles again.

Mine is the same age and co-sleeps. He’s JUST started sleeping through the night but he does bump into us, check we’re there etc a few times a night so I have no doubt that if he was in his own room I’d have to go and re-settle him on those occasions.

Cookit · 10/01/2019 06:57

Oh and we have quite an early riser (didn’t see your second question there). Stirring (to be resettled, stir, restelled, stir, up) from about 5am or sometimes if I’m lucky 6-6.30am.

DD is 19months. Goes to bed at 745, gets up around 7.20 am. Has slept through the night since about 6 months old, but we formula fed, and always encouraged independent sleep. (Never had to do any controlled crying etc, but lots of work on staying in cot.)

It’s not unreasonable to be going to him overnight, as it’s just what he is used to and therefore what he needs.

DD1 started sleeping 7pm - 7pm (no wakings) from 2y 2m.

DD2 the same from 3y ish. She was waking between 5.30 and 6.30 am prior but sleeping through.

When my son was that go several times a night. A couple of times at 3, once at 4, now he wakes only for a wee.

DS is 19mo. On average wakes 1-2 times a night but loads more if ill / teething. Has slept through a handful of times since birth.

abcriskringle · 10/01/2019 07:01

Oh, also I bf-ed til 18mo but then he stopped (think it was a nursing strike that turned into fully rejecting breast so he is weaned now) so simply used to bf back to sleep. Now I offer cuddles and if needed water/calpol or whatever

Mine was asleep 6.30-6.30 from a younger age. She only got up in the night at that age if she was ill.

DD is 22mo old, and does 7ish-7.30ish, with usually no waking, she occasionally (once every 6 or 8 weeks) will have a wee wail at 10ish but is easily settled. I guess while the ideal is that you don't have to, and in most cases it's a reasonable expectation, it's up to you what you are happy with. I've worked in childcare for nearly 18y and come to realise it's different strokes for different folks. Lots of people would prefer not to have to go in and resettle their toddler in the night and so attempt to tackle it. It wouldn't be for me. But if you don't mind doing it then it's not an issue, iyswim?

My daughter is 20 months, so not quite two yet. Unless she is ill or teething she will generally sleep 7pm - 7am with no wake ups. By 6 months she was down to just one night feed at 5am and by 8 months she had dropped that. She definitely still has bad nights, my husband has been up with her since 4am this morning due to teething, but I'd say 95% of the time she sleeps through. I stopped breastfeeding at 6 months so she goes to sleep with a dummy rather than feeding.

However I do believe that most of this is down to the luck of having a good sleeper or not. I'm pregnant again, dreading the next one being a bad sleeper as I think we've been spoilt!

Couple of times a night with one of my dcs at that age. It only stopped once he started school.

I only gave water from around 15mo ish. Both my 5yo and 3yo are currently in our bed Hmm 5yo generally sleeps through now but the 3yo never does. No idea how many times she would wake up if we tried to put her back in her bed on her own.

4 months off 3 yrs.
Goes to bed about 7.30/8 and get up anywhere from 6 to 8.
Cuddled to sleep.
We have mostly just stopped going to her durring the night only because since she has given away the dummy if we go to her she has a tantrum (not over the dummy).
We still sometimes have to pop in to put Ewen the sheep on or sometimes she is accept a cuddle.
A few months a go once is us would pop into bed for a cuddle until she went to sleep. I would often fall sleep doing this.

2 and 3/4 here. Up on average twice a night and usually ends up in our bed if it’s The second time up. 6 year old still wakes about once a week.

Ha ha we has a gro clock for my eldest who just used to come in to tell us there were 2 or 1 stars left! Hmm

Ds is 2.5 and finally settles down around 8 but I need to sit with him which I am about to tackle. Wakes a couple of times a night and often ends up in bed with me when I am too tired to get up and down. New year's resolution is to work on self settling.

Although I'm pleased to learn I'm not alone getting up and down each night

DD is now 4 and still wakes and cries for me in the night most nights, sometimes more than once. At 2.5 it was probably much the same. I think she occasionally slept through the night but not regularly. She was breastfed to sleep until she self-weaned the week of her 3rd birthday, except on a couple of nights each week when I was at work at bedtime and DH would give her a cup of milk. She liked (still likes) me to sit in a chair by the side of the bed and hold her hand until she goes back to sleep. I usually fall asleep in the uncomfortable chair which is not doing my neck/ back any good. I thought this was reasonable at 2.5, not so much, and the sleep deprivation from never having an uninterrupted night's sleep (I also work night shifts most weeks) is affecting me.
