You won’t believe what happened at a wedding last night

Blush (no I’m not the guest in question)

Evening guests turned up at 7pm. Around 8pm bride and groom decided to cut the cake. Only to find cake had already been cut by a hungry guest ShockShockShock

Cake in question was a three tiered cake made of different cheeses. Surrounded by grapes and crackers/biscuits. No little bride and groom on top.

An absolute war broke out about it. Half the people saying well, how were they supposed to know it was the cake, other half saying it was pretty obvious.

Cake was in a separate room to the bar and dance floor. Bride in tears (or tiers boom boom).

Around three or four people had taken some of the cake by the time they realised!

Being in tears seems a bit much.

Easy mistake to make. Without B&G on top it's just a stack of cheese with crackers around it.

a bit annoying perhaps, but really not a big deal to me.

Wedding cake of cheese is brilliant.
I would have thought that unless it was sitting right in the middle of the buffet, it would still be obvious it was The Cake.

Bet the bride was thoroughly cheesed off.

So basically an unsupervised stack of cheese and crackers.

I wouldn’t have known it was the wedding cake either. Serves the bride and groom right.

Hilarious.

Floods of tears sounds a bit much - I think i’d Have found it highly amusing and cut it anyway. Tbh if they didn’t stick it on a table if its own then i’m Sure it could be easily mistaken - no one cuts a wedding cake on purpose unless it’s their own!

Agree that a bride/groom on top (or other symbolic THIS IS THE CAKE decoration) should have been placed to cordon it off from grazers.

Annoying but not worth ruining your bridal makeup for 😉

Cake was in a separate room to the bar and dance floor.

So the hungry guest had to actively go looking for it? That is weird.

I’d have guessed it was potentially the ‘cake’, but my dad wouldn’t and would def have tucked in.
Locally, it’s traditional to cut the cake before the evening guests arrive, either before the meal or immediately after. A stack of cheese in a corner still intact by the time evening guests arrived would def look more like buffet than ‘ta-daaaaa!’

I had a cake of cheese at my wedding. We had a bride and groom on top but also it got sat in the middle of the buffet so some guests helped themselves whilst getting their food, not realising until my dad pointed it out. We'd had a photo earlier, but even if we hadn't I wouldn't have been remotely arsed if it had been half eaten by the time we got to it as it was my wedding day and I was too pissed busy enjoying myself to worry about anything much.

They should have Caerphilly put a sign up. Then it would Brie obvious.

Still, what are you Gouda do?

Report
GrapesAndCheese · 01/01/2019 20:57

She can't Brie too cheesed off. It wasn't Gouda the guest to cut off a slice but they'd have been crackers to withstand temptation. They must have cut it very Caerphilly for no one to notice straight away. Was the guest Swiss? Bet the groom went Emmental, but it was a bit OTT of the bride to cause such a raclette.
