Online deliveries, no safe spot..

Recently moved into a house that pretty much opens onto footpath( small garden but low plants). There is no hiding/safe space, no garden gate etc to back.

I cant work out how/ where deliveries (Amazon and the like) get left when I'm not home...?

What do other people do? Just always go to post office to collect??

Could you get a parcel delivery box? (can be secured to your wall so it's not picked up and taken!). We have one outside our front door and it's really useful.

I only order if it can be delivered to a locker, work, DH’s work or click and collect. Unless I’m certain it will go though the letter box and won’t need a signature.

I just collect from the sorting office. It's only a 5 min drive for me though....

Lots of places have lockers where parcels can be left for collection now. I know our local supermarket - Morrisons - does. Worth looking into.

I wonder if there's a market for a front door which has a panel that can be opened (like a night safe) and locked afterwards.

Leave it open if you are expecting a delivery, teh driver drops package in and closes it, locking it.

You could sprinkle some Internet of Things shiny on it so it "pings" you when it's happened .....

Look for click and collect options at checkout. I can get stuff delivered to an Amazon locker, lots of local shops or any local post office.
Even eBay will deliver to local Argos
I actually get really annoyed when there isn't this option 😂

Amazon lockers - usually found at supermarkets. You get an email and you open your locker with the barcode.
Delivered to Hermes delivery points
Other Amazon drop off points.
I live within 10mins walk of about 5 places I can collect a parcel from.
Parcel force go to the big post office 10min drive away.

So amazon lockers and pickup locations are in pain in the a*se locations relative to home/ work, sigh. As are Hermes points... i didn't appreciate how easy i had it before to blithely order anything of any size and it could be left in the garden safely.

Liking the look of the parcel boxes as a start..and a hedge to hide things!

Would really recommend Amazon lockers.

Make sure you DO sort something though. Drivers round my way have been known to just leave them on the doorstep in plain sight, then wonder why it gets stolen 😩

if amazon would just use a consistent courier, it would be easier! I have nowhere to leave it either. If it's royal mail, it's OK, as I can collect from the depot if I happen to miss them. But sometimes they use their own couriers instead, who don't take it back to somewhere obvious to collect from. I don't think Hermes and DPD etc have somewhere either, so you just have to book re-delivery with them I think, or wait for them to redeliver. But amazon's own couriers seem to be some sort of other self-employed set of drivers, so I never know what will happen with them. Usually they leave it with a neighbour or in front of the door if I'm not there. I try to be, but they give no timings at all, so it can be hard.

I was in much the same position as you , not often in , house no access to back , tiny front then pavement so no where to leave anything safe ,

Fixes to wall with bracket and bolts seems reasonably secure ( has feature inside with code that they can photograph as proof of delivery instead of signature
Very large box - think small cupboard but the secure mechanism only allows a parcel of say the size of a large shoe box in the entry at one time although it will take probably 5 or 6 this size once they are inside . Key to front and it pulls down to open

@SpaSushi it's a Hippo Box; got it about 10 years ago....and yes they had to deliver but I waited in for it .
