Someone keeps ordering take away to my house

As the title says...

4 times in the last 10 days someone has ordered a take away to my house. First time, 9pm someone knocks, I answer, it's a take away. The numbers on the houses on our street aren't very viable so it's quite common for delivery drivers etc to get the wrong number. So I say we haven't ordered anything who's it for? He said number (My door number) I say I haven't ordered anything he's saying I did, he then rings the number used to call up not mine or DH number.

Same thing has happened another three times from three different take away.

I don't know who it is or why? The food hasn't been paid for online either because everytime the driver has said an amount as soon as I've opened the door.

We love in a large village and there's a few take away of different things but my worry is is that we don't order very often but if we do they might not want to bring it out because they will think it's a prank again.

Also I'm fed up of it now, last night it was just gone 11.

How do I stop it?

For perspective, there's over 100 houses on my street and my close neighbours are eitherbliving alone, elderly and 1 close neighbour has 2 adult kids (about 18 and 20). So I can't accuse anyone either. It's annoying

Ignore. It may go away. The caterers can block the other number. If it escalates to skip hire, double glazing salesmen and taxis you might want to get the number passed over to the police.

Or burn the entire street down.

What is the result of the phone call made to the other number by the delivery driver?

And what happened then?

Can you get the number that was given to the takeaways and tell the non emergency police?

If you want a takeaway in future just pay online or over the phone.

Maybe it's someone with a similar postcode to you and they've got one digit wrong so it brings up your road rather than a neighbouring road?

Tell all takeaways not to deliver to you at present.

Has amyone been to your house recently? DC friends?

Its not nice Sad

It's probably a stupid prank by someone with too much time on their hands and nothing personal. Is there a neighbourhood policing team you could speak to? It could be part of a pattern of behaviour people are experiencing. You could speak to the individual takeaways and have some sort of password or when you do want food, go in to the actual business so that they get to know you. The Chinese near us recognises our phone number - I think they have software that links orders to phone numbers rather than us ordering from them frequently!

Ask for the number.

Yeh, did the orderer pick up?

We had this. Why do people do it?

Would it be an address similar to yours?

Report
hannah1992 · 18/12/2018 11:02

There's no streets similar to mine and if was definitely my street and door number.

When the driver rang the number nobody answered but neither mine nor dhs phone rang so he then realised it wasn't us.

I didn't know if the police would do anything about it?

I may pop into one of the take away and have a chat later on and see if they have the phone number.

I hope they do get bored it's annoying. Once could be considered a joke but 4 times is stupid.

Last night it was just after 11. DH was up at 4:30am for work. I didn't answer the first knock because obviously 11 at night and I didn't know who it was but the they knocked harder/louder. So I'm guessing if I ignore them knocking they will just knock more and louder

Its not funny though for me or the take away. It's annoying for me and they are losing money

Someone is doing this out of spite and you really need to think hard about who it could be as their behaviour could ramp up. In the meantime I'd speak to all of the takeaways who've delivered and see whether there's a phone number. Also did they give a name? When I order a takeaway I have to give a first name at least. I'd warn the others, too - they'll be grateful as this must really annoy them.

My parents had a sudden spate of a lot of correctly addressed post to someone they'd never heard of.
Turned out he lived in a new build about 20miles away with the same street name and number, but had been accidentally given the wrong postcode- my parents' one.
So whenever he wrote the postcode into a computer it helpfully autocorrected the village name to my parents' village to match the postcode.
Took about 6 months to discover this.

If they are ordering using just eat email them and tell them to take ur address off any accounts linked to it. U could always ring ur local takeaways and let them know what's happening. They will get fed up and stop delivering but like u said it's not the point I would be super annoyed. I had something similar where someone had made a fake gumtree account selling and giving items away and used my address. I had random people turning up to my door to pick up things I didn't even have a gumtree account. In the end I emailed gumtree and they removed my address from whichever account it was being used. Happened more then once so it deffo wasn't a mistake hope u get it sorted op xx

Have you any exes who might be doing this? Are you a teacher, or have you pissed anyone off recently? Has your DH?

If I were you I'd ring or visit the local takeaways and explain. It will be annoying them too. Set up a password so they know if it's you ordering or get them to confirm by ringing your mobile.

If it’s Korean street food, is there an old Korean lady hovering in the garden?

The OP said that whoever is ordering the takeaway isn't doing it online, because the delivery people have asked for cash when they've turned up at the door with the food.

This does sound maliciously targeted.

I agree with PPs that one way of stopping this is to contact/visit each takeaway in your village to explain it's not you and - good idea to whoever suggested it - to have a codeword for your genuine orders.

You can order online and pay cash still

OK, that makes it even more devious.

It could be a simple mistake. If they are ordering off justeat you only put your address in once and then it uses it for every order so if they have made a mistake on the address (wrong house number, autocorrect changed it to something else etc) then it will keep using that wrong address. Ring just eat and see if there is anything they can do.

If it happens again, have a look around outside. Chances are the person responsible will be watching somewhere.

If it was a simple mistake then the person who ordered would be calling the takeaway back saying 'oi, where's my food, you said it would be half an hour.'
It has got to be deliberate, I am afraid.
