Who is your "on the way to work" buddy

There's a lollipop man on my route to work. I pass him daily, in my distinctly coloured car, and have begun to wave to say hello daily and he waves back. I know I'm running late as he leaves his "post" at 9am.

Most mornings I turn off my estate road and onto the main road in my very distinctive car exactly as a man in another very distinctive car turns off the opposite road. We flash our lights and take it in turns each time to allow each other into the traffic first. We are clearly both exceedingly punctual people. (Or he hides around the corner until he spies my car!)

Oh, black golf man! I suppose I am grey golf lady. We pass each other on the road coming out of my village every morning just after 8. It’s been going on for nearly 2 years now.

He parked next to me in Morrisons car park about 6 months ago, we had a little chat and now we always flash and wave of a morning!

Glad it’s not just me!

I do wonder if lollipop man thinks I'm odd waving at him...

I drive behind or alongside a car who has ‘Jen’ in her reg every day. If we ever don’t see her, the kids even ask “where’s Jen today?!” smile

Op, mine is a lollipop man too! After a year of walking past one another in silence, we've now progressed to a cheerful 'good morning'
I also gauge how late I am by where he is!!!

Miserable dog walking lady! 😂 An older lady who, despite us passing her every day for near 2 years, will never smile or in any way acknowledge our existence.

Not on the way to work, but at my oldest daughter's activity, there's a car with a personalised plate, say DAN for example. We always seem to park next to or follow "Dan" or he follows us in or out of tyre car park, but we've never spoken to him.

DD and I like to make up stories about him on the way home. Maybe we should make friends with him.

Bright yellow bike man, cheerful dog walking man being dragged along by even more enthusiastic dogs, weight of the world dog walking man

Mr postman presumably either before or after his shift walking his spaniel in the park. If I catch Mr blue jacket guy walking his daughter to school I know I'm running late and need to get a shifty on for the bus.

I have a few.

'Barbara', not her real name, but that's what I call her, in the coffee shop where I stop in the morning.
Hot train driver, he's about 25 and says good morning
Margaret Atwood : aka a woman who looks exactly like MA

Red Leaf. I walk to work, and every morning, a red Nissan Leaf passes me. I know if I'm running late by where I am when it drives by.

Cheerful headphones guy. We pass each other while he's walking to work and I'm walking home from a nightshift. grin

Also a lollipop man for me too. Tbf he dances and waves to all the cars in the morning but he makes me smile smile.

Nice to have a bit of pleasant stranger-ness

MulticolourMophead Tue 11-Dec-18 13:54:49

I leave at 7am, and there's not much to see at that time. I guess I do occasionally see a few cars regularly, but not in a way I can interact.

This is just the loveliest thread, keep ‘em coming smile I don’t have one and I’m really envious of you all.

My school run buddy is a neighbor who does same route x

I used to have a lollipop man at the bus stop near old house who was a sweet irish man

cjt110 Tue 11-Dec-18 14:22:35

Isn't it funny how our buddies may not even know we exist, or set their own time by US?

Fred999 Tue 11-Dec-18 14:28:11

The scary man who gets the same train and tram as me and who works in the same building as me. He is so desperate to get the front seat on the tram that he stands EXACTLY where the doors will stop on the platform, slowly edging others out of the way (he's massive so it works). Then when the doors open he RUNS to get on first. Even when I was heavily pregnant he would happily push past me to get 'his' seat. Lord knows what would happen if he ever had to stand!

Mehmehmeh19 Tue 11-Dec-18 14:47:41

Blue polo man, but he's not my buddy! We live on the same street, he exits the street at the bottom me at the top.

I secretly race him to the main road junction. And feel smug all day when I win!

* no actual racing involved just who gets to it first!

He took in a parcel for me a few days ago I felt quite nervous collecting it from him.

Not any more but my work buddy used to be train station man. He was a lovely guy who owns a Christian bookshop and pops out when a train comes to take down the numbers of passengers getting on and off. He runs the station appreciation society and produces a newsletter which he types up on a type writer. He is a genuinely happy soul. I miss not commuting to work and seeing him every day.

A man who always wears too short trousers, he hurries past me almost every day.

And only on Wednesdays but pretty much every week, a lady who comes running down the road clutching a piece of toast/fruit/a cereal bar with dripping wet hair. I always wonder why she doesn't just wash it at another time as it obviously makes her late doing it in the morning!

Great Posture Lady
She walks very slowly with her shoulders right back and her head held very high. It’s like she’s floating. She dips her head at me, slightly. We usually cross paths at a bridge.

Book Dude
Mid-30s, long black coat all year (even at the height of this summer’s hot weather), beard, ponytail, and walks along reading a book. He’s usually approaching my house as I’m leaving, and he’s coming from the direction of the train station. I don’t know how he walks and reads as he walks along busy city streets. They’re usually fantasy novels- Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings etc. He never looks up, but manages to never bump in to people.
