Fuck me, I'm having no luck at the minute.

This morning I slipped down the stairs AGAIN.

Instead of landing on my foot like I did 6 weeks ago (causing a stress fracture of the 3rd metatarsal - crutches and boot needed...) I landed with my back on the edge of the step.
Totally winded myself and it took a while to get my breath back.

I've managed okay today, some twinges but nothing too drastic until this evening.
I had a hot bath, took a dose of co-codamol due to my back becoming quite painful and got into bed as normal.
Have been watching TV, gone to get up and I can't move!!!

My back has totally seized up, I'm in agony. Luckily my dad is staying with me for a few days so I called him to come and help me get out of bed - he moved me very slowly (it took 15 minutes to get me to standing) and the pain was about a 8/10.
I did some small stretches so that I could move enough to get to the loo (just rotating tiny amounts from side to side) and now I can't walk without dragging my foot.
My leg feels so heavy, like it's fallen asleep.

Anyone got any tips on how to loosen myself up again? I've tried some naproxen, currently got a hot water bottle on my back and will try some deep heat once it goes cold.
The pain is something else though, the co-codamol is barely touching it and unless I lay completely still it sends me through the roof.

Id be seeking medical attention. You could have done serious damage. Call 111 and don't attempt to move!

That sounds pretty bad OP.Flowers Can you get to A&E?

WhoTookTheChristmasCookie · 11/12/2018 00:37

@TitsNnails oh god, don't say that. I didn't think it would be anything drastic because I was able to get up and move, plus it's been fine all day.
Hoping it's just gone into spasm Sad really do not fancy another night in A&E.

Ooh poor you.
I think you need to phone 111 as well.

@DioneTheDiabolist I could, logistics would be a nightmare though.
I don't feel like I can drive safely(!!) and there are no cab firms around here that operate after 11ish throughout the week.
My dad would have to stay here with toddler DD.

I really don't want to call an ambulance!

111 are going to hear back pain after falling down the stairs and send paramedics though, aren't they?

Honestly, I'm going to start wrapping myself in Nerf at this rate Sad

I'll see if the Naproxen does anything, if not I'll give them a call.

Hoping to try and hold out for GP or minor injuries in the morning - for the lack of hassle if nothing else.

Sure if you end up in A&E tonight, you'll be out in time for the school run.Xmas Grin And they might just tell you to put a cold pack on it.

@DioneTheDiabolist Grin
To be perfectly honest, I'm nervous about going back after slipping just 6 weeks ago and injuring my foot.
It's a small hospital.
I look like a dozy twat who cannot manage stairs properly.

Yep - you are a dozy twat who can’t handle the stairs.

I wouldn’t bother with 111. Call an ambulance. You could have done some serious damage that was being masked by swelling. You shouldn’t go by car, you should go by ambulance.

It’s your back! Better to be safe than sorry. Yes, hopefully it is nothing serious, but at least they can give you some painkillers and anti-inflammatories. Go now, while it is quiet.

I would be a little worried as why someone young has fallen twice in 6 weeks. Do you know what caused the fall? Had you taken any pain killers for your foot prior to the fall? Any other meds such as beta blockers (for anxiety or high blood pressure)?
I would be checking your blood pressure, blood sugar, ECG and looking for any signs of infection/ any neurological weakness. Unless of course you tripped over something?

I really hope the pain gets better soon, I echo that you need medical advice, cant imagine tomorrow looking after your toddler when you are in such pain. Hope you have someone able to help.

I'm a capable adult, I promise
But at the moment me and stairs are in a bit of a war, give me a ramp any day.Sad

The pain isn't getting better, so I've called 111 - they've sent an ambulance out but it's very busy tonight so I could be waiting up to 6 hours. In the meantime I've been told to not move.

@Jent13c My hip is very unstable and can knock out at any given moment without warning which is what happened this morning and when I slipped last time.
It just clunks out of place and I end up losing my footing (in agony!)
I've been waiting for months to get a MSK referral and finally have an appointment at the beginning of January. The instability of the joint is getting much worse though, it's starting to worry me.

I feel sorry for my poor dad.

He had to pick up the slack when I injured my foot and now he's going to have to help me out again with a bit of childcare while I go to the hospital.
He's getting on himself, plus he's self-employed so if he isn't working there's no income for him.

He has actually said that while my hips are so unstable he might just move in with me and DD. Don't think that would be such a bad idea now!!

Please go to A&E and insist on an X-Ray. I did similar and was in agony for a fortnight after being told i had pulled a muscle and I had fractured my T12 vertebrae. My DS slipped on some wet marble stairs in a villa and landed on his back and chipped a vertebrae.

Try some lavender oil on shoulders and inhale through nose for count of 2 and out for 4. Relax muscles general this way. They may give you a mild anti-depressant 5mg to release muscles spasm in your back muscles if that's all it is, it helped my whiplash. But the point is we don't know so get thee off to A & E! Flowers, i can't offer brew or cake yet incase you're nil by mouth.
