80s toys I wish I could buy new for my kids!!

My thoughts are turning to Christmas presents for my two five year old girls and as I look through the offerings of slime-pooing unicorns I wish they still made the 80s toys of my five year old dreams ....
Keypers
Brush a loves
Sweet Secrets
Pound Puppies

My girls would love them...someone would make a mint if they brought them all back!

user1981287 Thu 08-Nov-18 08:50:11

Can't you find them on ebay? There's masses of sweet secrets stuff and pound puppies (and I'd never heard of the others but Ive just looked and there are also loads of them on ebay)

BleachedWail Thu 08-Nov-18 08:51:26

Yes but new they are £££ and the used ones look a bit passed their best.

Does anyone remember what the dolls were called where their hair grew when you put their arm up??

gingerchick Thu 08-Nov-18 08:51:27

Snuggle bumms!!!!

gingerchick Thu 08-Nov-18 08:52:23

Cross posted that’s what I would buy my kids not the growing hair dolls

user1981287 Thu 08-Nov-18 08:53:22

Well they're second hand on ebay but things like the keypers are plastic so look pretty much as they would have done. Plus your DDs are five and so they would never know the difference.

user1981287 Thu 08-Nov-18 08:54:34

Apologies if this thread is just supposed to be about reminiscing but you could save yourself money, buy the things you desire and help save the planet a little by buying the second hand stuff.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions Thu 08-Nov-18 08:57:03

I was just having similar conversation the other day, i wish kids saw more 80's style stuff

The new little ponies donf even look like ponies they've got freaky massive eyes and flat faces

Carebears seem to be badly drawn too.

Keypers thats what they were called i've been trying to remember for months.

What were the plushies that could turned inside out called?

HalfBloodPrincess Thu 08-Nov-18 09:02:23

@bleachedwail I think they were called dolly surprise.

The inside out plushies were popples?

I’ve still got an attic full of keypers, rainbow brite dolls, she-ra toys, sweet secrets and polly pockets.

MamaLovesMango Thu 08-Nov-18 09:03:59

Original polly pockets. The ones they’ve brought out this year are better but not quite the same!
The big yellow tea pot.
Not really a toy but do you remember when Clark’s did a shoe that came with a little key which opened up a little space in the sole? My DD would go mad for those!

HalfBloodPrincess Thu 08-Nov-18 09:04:05

Forgot my little ponies - still have the original castle, nursery, dances school and stable, as well as most of my ponies (Dd and ds put the sea ponies in the bath and they went a bit manky 😩)

NaughtToThreeSadOnions Thu 08-Nov-18 09:06:19

halfblood thank you thats them!!! Popples

They kind of turned in to their own bag or something

drspouse Thu 08-Nov-18 09:08:38

Not 80s but I just ordered DH the original 60s Mousetrap game on eBay - he wanted one as a child and never got it!

Yes and one year i think they had a crystle thing in the soul or om the front cant remeber wich every girl in my class had to have them

Whynotnowbaby Thu 08-Nov-18 09:09:59

Also the new versions of old ball games are crap, bought dd Operation and it’s so flimsy it’s virtually impossible to play- it used to keep me occupied for hours.

BleachedWail Thu 08-Nov-18 09:11:06

I so wanted the clarks’ key shoes to the degree I squeezed my feet into a smaller size to get them when I was about 9 and then had to admit two days later I couldn’t wear them...... 😬

confusedofengland Thu 08-Nov-18 09:15:51

The board game Coppit! My parents have it & we play it every time we go round there, it is the DC's absolute favourite (I know it's older than 80s, but it was a staple of my childhood). Also, the card game Whot.

pollysproggle Thu 08-Nov-18 09:22:29

Fashion wheel!

I would buy for my DS1 but he wouldn't be interested so I would duly play with it so it didn't go to waste.

dontevenblink Thu 08-Nov-18 09:27:22

I found a keyper in a charity shop a couple of months ago and I was so excited! I always wanted one as a kid and never got one and now I, I mean dd4, has one grin

TheMagicTorch Thu 08-Nov-18 09:30:35

The big yellow tea pot! I loved this so much. I was born in '89 but got my older sisters toys when they grew out of them, I loved them.

I had carebears and Glo-worms too grin

ALittleBitofVitriol Thu 08-Nov-18 09:32:35

Connectables.
I had a conversation with my 5 year old about how no-one would get them for me because they didn't believe I wanted boy toys. angry
I bought a couple as a teen and loved them.
We youtubed the old commercial and now he talks of nothing else!

user1457017537 Thu 08-Nov-18 09:35:05

All the old Fischer Price toys. The Jack in the Box, Petrol Pump, Doctors set with stethoscope that sounded like a beating heart! Garage. The Ghostbusters toys including fire station and car. Not to mention He-Man and Skeletor and their abodes.

drspouse Thu 08-Nov-18 09:39:01

I have a few of the old Fisher Price toys for my DCs, again ebay. DD loves the record player.

gussiefox Thu 08-Nov-18 10:37:57

A Beauty and the Beast talking mirror. Would love to get one for my now grown-up daughter but they appear to be collectable these days and can sell for hundreds really wish I hadn't chucked out the old one

AltogetherAndrews Thu 08-Nov-18 10:49:07

I just buy them second hand on eBay, and explain to Dd that they are vintage. She loves having toys that I had when I was little. This year she is getting a Charmkins dollhouse. It takes a little organisation in advance, to find, and to get one that doesn’t cost silly money, but it is worth it.
