And wouldn’t mind answering a shopping/driving related question for me?!

What's your question OP?

Brilliant-thank you all!

We are staying nearby and I am being dropped into Cardiff to do some shopping for the afternoon tomorrow (Wehoo!) and DH is then taking the kids to Techniquest and coming back to get me. The map of Cardiff is a bit daunting though (we are not from a big city!).

Where would he be best dropping me off and collecting me that’s easy for him to get to?! I suppose it needs to be somewhere that he can pull over and stop easily and where I can find him?! Somewhere near good clothes shops!!

Any help would be really great!!

If he parks at the multi story by Millenium centre, he can walk to Techniquest and you can hop on the train to city centre (5 mins). Alternatively, he could just drop you by the main train station which is a 5 min walk to John Lewis or maybe he could pull in to the collection point at the back of John Lewis (Signposted) and you could hop out?

I would suggest he waits for you outside the museum. There are plenty of parking spaces and road space to pull up alongside if he doesn't want to park. It is approx 4 minutes walk from Queen Street, which is the main shopping street and offers easy access to At David's shopping centre.
I work right by there at the university and that's where I always get people to wait because it saves anyone getting snarled up in the one way system and you can wait under cover up the steps to the museum (closed on Mondays) if it's raining.

Ooh, thank you both! The museum sounds perfect-especially if it is closed a Monday. Are the spaces directly at the front of the museum steps?

Where are you coming into Cardiff from? At present, I would agree with pp - get DP to drop you off around the back of central station, then he can drive down dumballs road to get to techniquest.

A couple of the shops I want are on the Hayes-is that nearby??

Cardiff is compact - The Hayes is about 3 minutes walk away from Central station.

You could all get off in the bay, and you could hop on train into centre.

Or behind John Lewis as pp suggested.

It depends what direction you are coming from though.

Parking in red Dragon centre in bay is free if you spend 6 quid. The multi story is expensive. The small car park opposite techniquest isn't too bad, or there is a pay and display by st David's hotel.

Have fun shopping. Cardiff has great shops..you probably want to start around the Hayes and st David's 2.

Yep there are spaces right outside the museum, and the streets around there. The centre of town is a couple of minutes walk from there: that gets you to Queen St which is ok for shopping, but carry on through the St Davids shopping centre and you get to the bit with John Lewis etc Smile
Everything’s pretty close together

Tbh if he's going to the Bay and not familiar with Cardiff I second parking near the Millennium Centre and you hopping on a train. It'd be quicker too.

Train station in the Bay is on Bute St, the main drag up to the centre.

Thank you all!

How long would it take to walk to Cardiff Bay station from Techniquest?

Less than 10 minutes between cardiff bay station and techniquest.

Cardiff schools aren't on half term yet so Techniquest doesn't open on Mondays in term time - your OH may need another plan

Oh no-typical!! Thank you, we are thinking of a Plan B!

St Fagans Musuem of Welsh Life instead of Techniquest?

It’s a little way from the city centre so I would use a sat nav but not hard to find.

Or the museum in town, which would make life easier perhaps? Recommend the John Lewis carpark for parking.

Oh yes Monday, the museum is shut also!
The old library on Hayes is open, also known as Cardiff story museum.
The library has a kids section, but aimed at smaller kids.
Golf, cinema, there is a little paint your own pottery place in the queens arcade shopping centre.
Cardiff castle, quite expensive though.
Open top bus tour.
Bute park and river bus.

St fagans is great for all ages - it's free except for parking and they also may like Parc Play which is near Central Train station.
