Me and my partner are sneeking of to get married in portree on the 25th of October and are in need of some witnesses. Anyone local that could help? Gin and chocolate( or insert other treat of choice) for anyone that could help!

Nope but I'll bump that for you.

Unfortunately not. It is one of my favourite places though. If I was going to be there I would gladly be a witness.
My DH and I had our first ‘dirty’ weekend in Portree 30 years ago.

It's a gorgeous place and special for us. Got everything booked. Just the witnesses to find smile

Oh how lovely. Sorry, I only wish I lived there but it is also one of my most favourite places.

The view from the beach at Elgol is my happy place. Best of luck and have a fabulous day!!

Total bump. Where are you staying? I don't think you'll have any problem finding someone but the hotel/B&B/campsite people would probably be delighted to help.

Were staying in a holiday rental a few miles away. Gotta get the witnesses to sign a form a couple of days before though, so we can hand it in to the registrars.

I thought I could just grab some tourists of the street just before hand grin but apparently that's only OK in the movies smile

theluckiest Wed 08-Aug-18 09:38:58

Could the holiday rental owners put you in touch with a few locals (if they aren't local themselves)?

ChasedByMidges Wed 08-Aug-18 12:43:36

Rentals owner lives down south. I might have to ask him though if I can't someone before hand smile

Am sure they would be able to - or, and I'm sure it would please them and they'd want to help - people from the local tourist board?

ChasedByMidges Sat 11-Aug-18 22:03:39

Been in touch with the tourist board and they've given us a number for the Skye branch. Will phone on Monday and see if they know anyone that can help us smile

Post on Scotsnet page of Mumsnet? It’s listed under the “other” section

I'd be willing to bet that the tourist board would be delighted to help...

Yep, try the Scotsnet section OP

I did exactly the same thing. We got married at the registry office in Portree and they provided 2 witnesses (they were friends of the registrar and lovely). We took them some chocolates to say thank you for giving up their time on a Saturday smile
