I could really go a binge watch on a good old mini series.
I absolutely loved The Thorn Birds but my absolute cliff hanger favourite, back in the day was Lace.
The fashion, the hair!
The back story and the who was the mother?
It was gripping.
Anyone got any old favourites?

Mistral's Daughter.

The Far Pavilions
Terrible Raj-era colonialist rubbish (with white washing casting to boot - Amy Irving as a most unconvincing Indian princess) but Benedict Taylor was very handsome as an English soldier and there was a doomed love story that my teenage self thought was just wonderful.

I doubt I'd manage the first 15 minutes now.

Oh I loved these.

For the term of his natural life was my favourite, and Bangkok Hilton.

Return to Eden.

Thank you for the lifelong fear of crocodiles.

Ooh, Chimera too. With Charles Dance. Mmm.

elQuintoConyo Sat 26-May-18 21:45:02

Oh yes definitely Tenko, very powerful stuff.

Thank you thank you AnnDerry for reminding me of The Far Pavillions - i had such a monumental crush on Benedict Taylor!

I'd add North and South with Patrick Swizzlestick.

I recently re-read Thorn Birds and it does NOT sit right with adult me, whereas 15yo me thought it was sooooo romantic and the tv series had me swooning and crying! My DM was a big Dr Kildare fan so we were both at it grin lol.

The Far Pavilions, definitely. A Woman of Substance. Riders. North and South. It was a bit later and less trashy, but I loved The Chamomile Lawn.

And I feel as though I'm missing out on a whole sub-genre of floppy-haired possibly gay posh boys in miniseries, but I might just be thinking about Merchant Ivory films being shown on Chanel 4.
